Regrettable defeat

A few months after their last encounter, U22 Vietnam and U22 Uzbekistan faced off again at the Panda Cup in China. Compared to the previous encounter, the two teams only made a few minor personnel adjustments, but the results were different.

If previously, U22 Vietnam had a hard-fought draw against an opponent considered to have the fastest-growing youth football team in Asia, this time, the red team suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat.

U22 Vietnam lost with a minimal score to U22 Uzbekistan

In terms of the game, the defeat was not too surprising. U22 Uzbekistan still showed superiority at many times, especially in the ability to organize attacks and control space. The Central Asian team created a series of clear opportunities, forcing U22 Vietnam to retreat deep and defend with quite a lot of difficulty.

However, the most regrettable thing is that U22 Vietnam could have left the field with at least a draw for their tireless efforts. The climax was the situation at the end of the match, when Ngoc My jumped high to head the ball against the crossbar, to the regret of the fans.

Because U22 has not won against itself

The defeat against U22 Uzbekistan once again exposed the "old" weaknesses that have not been completely overcome of U22 Vietnam under coach Kim Sang Sik.

The ability to create breakthroughs in the midfield is really low. U22 Vietnam lacks a player who can make lethal passes, opening up clear opportunities for strikers, leading to a relatively monotonous and predictable playing style.

The most regrettable thing is that U22 Vietnam has not surpassed itself.

In the second half of the second half, U22 Vietnam held the ball quite a lot. But controlling the ball only to pass horizontally or pass back caused the attack rhythm to decrease sharply. The attack lines lacked speed and ideas, making it easy for the opponent to approach and eliminate the attack plans before they could form.

The quality of finishing is also a matter of concern. Both Thanh Nhan and Ngoc My had good chances at the end of the match, but their shots and headers lacked the necessary accuracy. This is not the first time U22 Vietnam has wasted valuable opportunities, which has prevented coach Kim Sang Sik's team from breaking away in evenly matched matches.

The defeat against U22 Uzbekistan was not too heavy because this was just a friendly tournament to test the force, but this defeat reiterated a reality: U22 Vietnam still has not won against itself, with limitations that have not been clearly improved despite the SEA Games and especially the U23 Asian Cup finals being very close.
