
On November 15, in Hanoi , the University of Transport Technology held a ceremony to celebrate its 80th anniversary (November 15, 1945 - November 15, 2025) and the 64th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit to the school (November 29, 1961 - November 29, 2025) and Vietnam Teachers' Day November 20. Dr. Tran Hong Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Construction attended and spoke at this meaningful event.
Symbol of will and creativity of the transport industry
College of Public Works - the predecessor of today's University of Transport Technology, was established and opened on November 15, 1945 according to the Decree of the Revolutionary Government on the basis of selectively absorbing facilities and Vietnamese teaching staff from the Indochina College of Public Works.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Principal of the University of Transport Technology, reviewed important milestones during the 80 years of construction and development of the school.
Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long said, born in extremely difficult conditions and fierce war, the School initially had only a few dozen staff, employees and students; poor facilities, but under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, thanks to the help and support of the local authorities and people, trained through the difficult stages of the struggle for national independence, the School has continuously developed, grown stronger and stronger, in all circumstances, excellently completed the assigned tasks...
Generations of leaders, lecturers, staff and students of the school have overcome all difficulties, challenges and dangers, directly participating in ensuring traffic and serving combat, while teaching, researching and training technical staff, promptly meeting the requirements of the transport sector and the country.
Many projects have been marked by the hands and minds of teachers and students of the school, such as participating in the construction of the Thong Nhat Railway, Dong Dang - Border Railway, Ta Khoa - Co Noi, Lung Lo Pass, Na San - Son La routes... to serve the resistance war in the past and participating in projects such as the North Thang Long - Noi Bai road, Hanoi - Lao Cai highway, Hanoi - Hai Phong - Long Thanh - Dau Giay... to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country today", Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Hoang Long, Principal of the University of Transport Technology said.
After 80 years of construction and development, overcoming many difficulties, teachers and students of the University of Transport Technology have continuously grown and developed in all aspects, increasingly affirming its position as one of the prestigious multidisciplinary and multi-field technical universities with application orientation in the transport-construction industry and the country, assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to be the focal point for the network of excellent training centers for talents in the field of transport technology and advanced smart infrastructure.

In particular, since being upgraded to university level training (in 2015), the school has made strong developments in terms of scale, training quality, scientific research, innovation and international integration, strongly promoting internal resources to contribute to the strategic goals of the industry and the country.
Always steadfast in the philosophy of "Theory linked to practice - School linked to society", over the past 80 years, the University of Transport Technology has contributed to training hundreds of thousands of engineers, bachelors, technical staff, managers, and experts to serve the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. With its great contributions, the School has been recognized by the Party and the State with many noble awards: the title of Hero of Labor in the renovation period, 2 First-class Independence Medals, 2 First-class Labor Medals, Second-class Freedom Medal awarded by the Lao State and many other noble medals. In particular, 64 years ago, on November 29, 1961, the School was honored to welcome Uncle Ho to visit and since then, November 29 every year has become the traditional day of the school.
Contribute to realizing the development strategy of the transport and construction industry in the new era
Speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration of the University of Transport Technology, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that the University of Transport Technology has achieved.
Minister Tran Hong Minh expressed his impression with the scale of enrollment, the diversification of professions and training levels with 5 doctoral training programs, 15 master's programs, 60 undergraduate training programs, 3 international joint programs; 3 talent programs with almost the entire training program accredited.
In particular, in the field of science, technology and innovation, the University of Transport Technology has contributed many research projects to solve hot issues in the industry, most recently receiving and completing the compilation of over 100 standards for high-speed railway construction projects, electrified railways and urban railways. Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized that Vietnam is entering a new development phase - a phase of promoting industrialization and modernization associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, developing the digital economy, digital society, green economy, and circular economy to bring the country into an era of prosperity and development. Accordingly, the construction industry in general and the transport infrastructure sector in particular are entering a period of strong development with projects of the North-South high-speed railway, electrified railway, urban railway, airport system, ports, logistics, smart infrastructure and modern urban areas opening up great opportunities but also posing many new challenges.

Emphasizing the important role of the University of Transport Technology in implementing the industry development strategy in the current context, Minister Tran Hong Minh suggested that the school needs to comprehensively transform its development model, flexibly adapt to changes in science and technology and the need for high-quality human resources.
Accordingly, the University of Transport Technology needs to: continue to comprehensively innovate training, focus on learners, link training with social and business needs; promote the model of "learning in projects - research in production"; proactively transform digitally in education and university administration, form digital training programs, pilot new majors in smart infrastructure, transport technology, green cities and renewable energy.
Strongly develop scientific research and innovation, focusing on key areas of the industry: green construction materials, smart infrastructure, automated transportation and digital operations management; expand international cooperation, link with advanced universities and research institutes in the region, strive to become the leading applied research center in the ASEAN region in the field of transportation and construction technology by 2030.
Building a team of highly qualified teachers, scientists, and managers with a desire to contribute, meeting the development requirements of the new era; preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the University of Transport Technology "Intelligence - Dedication - Devotion", building the school into an academic, creative, and humane environment, the pride of the Vietnamese transport and construction industry.

BIM - AI.
On this occasion, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh and delegates cut the ribbon to inaugurate the 11-storey multi-purpose building and the ITS, BIM - AI Laboratory. This is a key project to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the School's founding and the 64th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit to the School.
The 11-storey multi-purpose building, starting construction in 2024, has a total floor area of over 1,000m², is designed in a modern, synchronous and environmentally friendly direction, including a system of lecture halls, conference rooms, meeting rooms, working areas, multi-purpose spaces, a bookstore and a canteen.
The project contributes to expanding the learning-research-creation space for lecturers and students, meeting the STEM training orientation and digital transformation requirements. Along with that, the ITS and BIM-AI Labs are built on the basis of cooperation between the school and technology enterprises to train high-quality human resources in the fields of smart transportation, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence. The new laboratory is a typical cooperation model between the school and enterprises, in line with the policy of linking university education with the practical needs of the transportation and construction industry.
