Parenting secrets of a housewife with 3 daughters who are excellent students

For Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet Hien (Hanoi), the greatest career of her life is to see her 3 children grow up. Currently, her 2 daughters Nguyen Nhat Minh and Nguyen Bao Chi both have university scholarships (75%-80%); the remaining daughter has just received a scholarship from a top university in Korea under a student exchange program.

Ms. Tuyet Hien is a full-time housewife to spend all her time with her children. Ever since her eldest daughter started kindergarten and went to piano lessons, she patiently waited for her to finish school so she could take her home. When she was a little older, even though the class was far away, her parents would drop her off at 6 pm, then wander around waiting until 9 pm to pick her up. When her daughter was older and took the entrance exam for high school or university, she would still wait right outside the school gate. It wasn't because her daughter couldn't take care of herself, but because Ms. Hien wanted her to always feel that, no matter what challenges lay ahead, her mother would be there, right behind the door, ready to welcome her home. It wasn't just about picking her up and dropping her off, but it was a way for her to understand: Mom is always here, loving and supporting her unconditionally. Every step she takes, every journey she goes through, there is the shadow of her parents.

For Ms. Hien, no child is perfect. In studying, she does not put too much pressure on her children to win awards; but she always wants them to appreciate learning and try their best to achieve their goals. What makes her saddest is not low scores, but when her children lack self-discipline. At that time, she often shares so that her children understand their parents' hardships, hoping that they will take the initiative to share instead of relying on her.

Many parents are often tired because their children often "argue". Ms. Hien has a more open view when distinguishing between opposition and constructive comments to see her children. There are times when her children are right and her parents are wrong, she is willing to respect and listen. She believes that when children feel that their voices are valued by their parents, they will become more mature, know how to analyze and express their opinions in a mature manner. At the same time, she understands that respect must always come from both sides - even in the parent-child relationship.

Not putting pressure on her children to study, Ms. Hien still has expectations for them, hoping that they will become independent and kind people. She always explains clearly so that her children understand, so that they can adjust themselves instead of waiting for their parents to remind them. Even though the family is not poor, she still encourages - and even creates conditions for her children to work part-time early. Her children have experienced many different jobs: from tutoring, working as teaching assistants, to building their own social media channels and taking on small advertising jobs. The income is sometimes only 10,000 - 20,000 VND, but she always emphasizes: "It is valuable to earn it yourself."

The secret to children's initial success in learning is their perseverance and efforts and their parents' companionship. She always wants her children to understand the value of independence. When her children turned 7-8 years old, she did not hire a nanny but let them do everything within their ability: cleaning their rooms, folding clothes, helping with housework... She believes that great things come from the most simple and ordinary things. "I believe that every child has their own path to shine. The important thing is that parents must have enough trust, patience and accompany their children, even when they stumble," Ms. Hien shared.
