Ms. Dang Thi Sin takes care of her family's cinnamon area.

Growing 8 hectares of cinnamon, some of which have been harvested, Ms. Dang Thi Sin's family earned 150 million VND at the beginning of this year. Ms. Sin believes that her family's income will be better and better when there is a factory that buys cinnamon leaves and bark right in the locality. Along with that, she also participates in a local organic cinnamon growing group to grasp the techniques of growing and preventing pests for the tree. "Cinnamon growing in recent years has caused leaf-eating and bark-eating worms, requiring spraying. Joining the cinnamon group, I know how to find effective spraying chemicals that are safe for people and do not affect the environment," said Ms. Dang Thi Sin, Nam Dinh village, Nam Dang commune, Van Ban district.

Nam Dang commune currently has 1,400 hectares of cinnamon, of which 400 hectares are ripe for harvest. The locality has established 4 organic cinnamon production groups, with nearly 100 households participating. In these groups, members are trained and share experiences in growing and caring for cinnamon; they visit and learn how to process to increase the value of the product. "The training class gave me a lot of new knowledge to process valuable products. Cinnamon trees sell for more money, and women also have more jobs," said Ms. Trieu Thi Dien, Nam Dang commune, Van Ban district.

Van Ban district currently has more than 9,400 hectares of cinnamon, of which more than 3,000 hectares are ripe for harvest. To increase the value of cinnamon trees, the locality focuses on inviting businesses to participate in the processing and consumption chain of products. Currently, two businesses have built essential oil processing factories and are purchasing cinnamon right at the facility for the people. "The company purchases all cinnamon trees. First, the bark and leaves are used to produce essential oils, as well as the bark for export. As for cinnamon trees, after being harvested, they are returned to make charcoal," said Mr. Nguyen Binh Duong , Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thai Tuan Lao Cai Company.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thien, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Van Ban district said: "In order to link production between enterprises and people more closely in the coming period, our view is that people must also focus on implementing the production process well to improve the quality of their products. As for enterprises, they must continue to explore markets, expand and diversify products to create competitiveness in the market."

Focusing on improving the quality of growing areas and attracting companies and businesses to invest in deep processing of cinnamon products, Van Ban district hopes to improve the competitiveness of products in the market, thereby creating a stable and sustainable source of income for local people.
