Conditions for transporting pets in the passenger compartment
Pet type : Dogs and cats 10 weeks or older.
Vietnam Airlines does not accept transporting birds in the passenger cabin. Please register for the pet transport service as checked baggage.
Health : Pets brought into the passenger cabin must be in good health, not sick, fully vaccinated, have no unpleasant odor, and not affect passengers and their property.
Weight : The total weight of the pet and the cage must not exceed 6kg. In case the pet and the cage exceed 6kg, passengers must register to transport the pet as checked baggage.
Quantity: Each passenger is allowed to bring no more than 02 pets, each cage must contain 01 pet, except in the following cases:
- Transporting 02 pets living together in one cage and the total weight of the 02 pets does not exceed 14kg;
- Transport pets under 6 months old in a cage with the mother.
The maximum total number of pets allowed in the passenger cabin of each class of service is as follows:
- Business Class: maximum 01 pet on A321 aircraft (not applicable for Business Class on A350 and B787 aircraft);
- Premium Economy Class: maximum 02 pets;
- Economy Class: maximum 02 pets.
Note:- During the flight, pets transported in the passenger cabin must be kept in a carrier and placed on the floor of the aircraft, in front of the passenger seat.
- In case passengers are seated in the row next to the emergency exit, pets will not be allowed to be transported in the cabin. Please book the pet transport service as checked baggage or as cargo.
Conditions for transporting pets as checked baggage
Pet type : Dogs, cats from 10 weeks old and birds.
Health : Pets transported as checked baggage must be in good health, not sick, fully vaccinated, have no unpleasant odor, and not affect passengers and their property.
Weight : The total weight of the pet and cage must not exceed 32kg. In case the pet and cage exceed 32kg, passengers must register to transport the pet as cargo.
Quantity: Each flight can transport a maximum of 09 pets as checked baggage, each passenger can transport a maximum of 03 pets, each cage can transport 01 pet, except in the following cases:
- Transporting 02 pets living together in one cage and the total weight of the 02 pets does not exceed 14kg;
- Transporting pets under 6 months old with their mother in a cage;
- Transport a pair of birds in a cage and the bird cage is covered with fabric around it.
Pets are not allowed
- Pregnant pets will not be transported;
- Some breeds of dogs and cats are very sensitive to temperature, humidity, light, pressure, sound and are vulnerable when traveling by plane. Therefore, to ensure the safety of the flight as well as the passengers' pets, Vietnam Airlines does not transport some breeds of dogs and cats. Passengers can refer to the List of breeds of dogs and cats that are not allowed to be transported;
- In case of extremely hot or cold weather, Vietnam Airlines has the right to request passengers to provide a Certificate of Adaptation or refuse to transport pets to ensure safety;
- The captain may refuse to transport a pet or move it to the cargo hold if the pet is likely to cause a nuisance to passengers or crew. The passenger will be notified of this decision in advance and assumes the full risk of injury, illness or death of the pet during transport.
Special cases: Guide dogs for passengers with limited mobility
Passengers with limited mobility are allowed to bring guide dogs on board without paying an additional service fee. Passengers are requested to inform Vietnam Airlines staff in advance when making reservations and purchasing tickets. Guide dogs must wear a muzzle, leash or similar item throughout the flight. Guide dogs must be trained to perform work or tasks to assist their disabled owners, trained to behave properly in public, and follow their owners' instructions. In addition, guide dogs must be fully prepared with "Accompanying documents" before the flight. Guide dogs will sit directly in front of the passengers.
Conditions of transport cage
Pet carriers carried as checked baggage or in the passenger cabin must meet the following requirements:
- Has the right size for pets, wide enough for pets to move around, stand up, sit, and lie down comfortably;
- Made from plastic, wood, metal, welded metal mesh materials. Wooden materials are only acceptable for cat carriers (not applicable for dog carriers).
- One edge of the cage is not welded, designed with a bar, allowing observation inside;
- The cage door is one side of the transport cage and has a security lock. Passengers can use an additional plastic lock to tie to the cage door.
- The bottom of the cage is made of hard, sealed material to prevent cold air from below and is waterproof;
- If the cage has wheels, the wheels must be removed before flight or be foldable;
- The interior of the cage is smooth, with no sharp edges or burrs;
- Water and food containers are securely attached to the carrier.
In addition to the above requirements, the transport cage must meet the following size and weight standards:
- Transport cage in the passenger compartment: 3-dimensional dimensions (width, length, height) do not exceed 35cm x 30cm x 20cm. Total weight of pet and cage does not exceed 6kg;
- Cage for checked baggage: Total weight of pet and cage must not exceed 32kg.

A: The cage door must have a center latch and be secured in two positions, above and below. B: The door hinge must cover the door frame by a maximum of 1.6 cm. C: The two halves of the cage must be bolted together.

Passengers contact Vietnam Airlines branches to book services at least 24 hours before scheduled departure time.
Service fee
Pet transportation service fee applies to the total weight including 01 transport cage and pet, excluding value added tax. Pet transportation regulations and fees only apply to flights operated by Vietnam Airlines. Passengers can refer to the following items:
Prepare before flight
Attached documents
Passengers must prepare the necessary documents before checking in at the airport, including: Exit quarantine certificate or certificate of departure country/region, entry certificate or quarantine station certificate of destination country/region,
health certificate, passport, etc. All documents must be valid.
Entry and exit regulations for pets
Carrying pets on board depends on the laws and quarantine systems of each country/region. Passengers should check
the government regulations of the country of departure and the country of arrival for a more complete flight experience.
Australian government regulations: Animals are not accepted for transport in the passenger cabin or as checked baggage. Please visit the Australian government website for more details.
UK government regulations- For flights to the UK: Animals are only accepted for transport as cargo.
- For flights originating from the UK: Animals are only permitted to be transported as checked baggage or cargo. Please visit the UK government website for further information.
US Government Regulations Passengers carrying pets (dogs) on flights from Vietnam to the US should note the following regulations upon entry:
- In case the dog has been vaccinated against rabies in the US, passengers should note the following requirements:
- Provide a CDC Entry Form (for dogs);
- Provide a US-issued rabies vaccination certificate or a USDA-certified health certificate for departure;
- Dogs in good health and 6 months of age or older;
- The multi-function scanner can recognize the microchip implanted before rabies vaccination;
- All forms and related documents must provide microchip code information.

- In case the dog is vaccinated against rabies in another country:
- Provide a CDC Entry Form (for dogs);
- Provide rabies vaccination certificate and foreign identification microchip;
- If the above two samples do not show rabies serology test results, the passenger needs to prepare a valid test certificate issued by a CDC-approved laboratory;
- Without a valid rabies serology test result, the dog will be quarantined at the pet care facility for 28 days. Passengers are advised to register with the facility in advance.
- Dogs in good health and 6 months of age or older;
- The multi-function scanner can recognize the microchip implanted before rabies vaccination;
- All forms and related documents must provide microchip code information.

- Pets (dogs) that have not been vaccinated against rabies are not accepted for transport.
Passengers should refer to the entry and exit regulations for pets of the governments of Japan, Korea and other countries.
Check your pet's condition
- Before departure, pets need to be issued with a quarantine certificate, a health certificate that is eligible to participate in the flight, etc. Refer to the “Attached documents” section.
- From 1 to 2 days before departure, passengers should regularly check to ensure that their pets are in good health. In case this is the first time that a pet is traveling by plane, passengers should consult a veterinarian for appropriate options.
- On the day of departure, passengers note:
- Feed your pet at least 4 to 6 hours before departure. Please prepare water for your pet (no more than 2/3 of the bottle capacity) if the total journey time is over 12 hours.
- Make sure your pet does not have an unpleasant odor that will affect other passengers.
Check in at the airport
Passengers traveling with pets must arrive at the airport early to ensure sufficient time for check-in before the flight. Vietnam Airlines encourages passengers to arrive at the airport at least 02 hours before departure. When checking in at the airport, passengers will be instructed by Vietnam Airlines staff to sign the "Waiver of Liability" form, or passengers can prepare this form in advance by downloading the form here, filling in the information and bringing it with them when checking in at the airport.
Note: In case the weather is too hot or too cold, Vietnam Airlines has the right to request a Certificate of Acclimatization or refuse to transport pets to ensure flight safety.
At the arrival airport
Procedures at the arrival airport depend on the regulations of each airport. Passengers traveling with pets should check the information and entry regulations of the destination to prepare the necessary procedures.
