According to information obtained by Tuoi Tre Online , on November 20, Nguyen Van Truong was taken by doctors of Hanoi Club to have his injury re-examined. As a result, Van Truong suffered a more serious injury than expected. He will have to undergo knee surgery, thereby definitely not being able to participate in SEA Games 33.
Van Truong was injured in the match between U22 Vietnam and U22 Korea on November 18 at the CFA Team Panda Cup 2025. He left the field and was taken to the hospital. After an X-ray, he was diagnosed with a ligament injury in his right knee.
Van Truong and U22 Vietnam returned home on November 19. Hanoi Club will coordinate with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to arrange for Truong to undergo surgery, and is expected to announce a specific plan in the near future.
Van Truong’s teammates are currently focusing on their home club to compete in the National Cup. Then, from November 23, they will move to Vung Tau to join the U22 Vietnam team to prepare for the final training session before the 33rd SEA Games.
In this training session, Coach Kim Sang Sik will take over the U22 Vietnam team from acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh. Mr. Kim will have to quickly come up with a plan to add and replace Van Truong.
The goal of U22 Vietnam is to win the gold medal at this congress. Losing an important player like Van Truong will certainly greatly affect that plan.
Van Truong was born in 2003 and grew up in the youth training system of Hanoi Club.
Over the past three years, he has continuously played for U22/U23 Vietnam in regional and continental tournaments. This year, under coach Kim Sang Sik, Truong is the key midfielder in the journey to help U23 Vietnam win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and win a ticket to the 2026 Asian U23 Championship.
