April 30th - is not just a milestone in time! It is the time for us to look back at a very special historical moment of our nation to reflect on ourselves: how we have lived in every breath of peace - for which our predecessors had to stop breathing, to remain forever in their youth.
These days, when we raise our heads to sing the National Anthem, or bow our heads before the graves of the martyrs, we suddenly feel choked up and our eyes sting... The war has been over for 50 years, or even longer, but in us still remains the choking beats of our hearts when we think about the sacrifices of the generation of people who "Determined to die for the Fatherland, determined to live"!
Immortal letters...
The political art program with the theme "Forever the Triumphant Song" on the evening of April 27 was broadcast live at 3 locations - also very special locations in the context of April 30: Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Tri province.
As soon as the program began, the unique lighting effect on Hien Luong Bridge - the location of the event in Quang Tri - made every Vietnamese person who understands history fall silent when remembering the story of the division of the country into 2 regions, North and South, at the 17th parallel on the Ben Hai River. Hien Luong Bridge - the place connecting a river section - was the place that divided the country for nearly 21 long years.
Historical stories were recalled, songs were sung... If the grand artistic performances strongly aroused in the hearts of the audience nationwide a strong sense of pride, there were also many times when people had to stop because of emotion. Many times, thousands of spectators at each location, from the leaders' seats to the audience, stood up without anyone telling them to! Those were extended moments of silence - more than gratitude, more than sacredness, more than pride, but a convergence of all emotions that are difficult to describe in words!
One of the stories told is the letter of 3 liberation army soldiers before they sacrificed in a forest in the Southeast to those who remained. They were: Le Hoang Vu (Thai Binh), Nguyen Chi (Quang Ngai) and Tran Viet Dung (Sai Gon) - belonging to Squad 1, "Ky Con" Platoon, Binh Gia Regiment, Southern Liberation Army. Let's see what they wrote before they sacrificed: " Our Liberation Army Squad in the "Ky Con" Platoon has completed its mission. We hope to be recognized that we lived, fought and died in a spring in the middle of the sky and earth like hundreds of thousands of deaths of true Vietnamese people for the survival of the Fatherland and the nation.
... Or in case 50 - 100 years later, this letter reaches those who can be called the next generation, then allow us to send our socialist greetings, allow us to express our wonderful joy because happiness and peace are flooding our planet and we have become useful dust particles... ”. Three sets of martyrs' remains on 3 hammocks hung on the top of a tree trunk and the carefully preserved letter have been found! And just as you said, 50 years later, is now - " happiness and peace are flooding ", and you, the "useful dust particles" for the Fatherland will forever stop at the beautiful youth like the place you have chosen to rest forever: " Spring in the Southeast forest" , is the concluding sentence in these immortal lines of letter. In the midst of the pain of being wounded and hungry, your scribbled handwriting still reflects your belief and strong desire for the future...

Those who have not seen peace
“Saigon Commandos” is one of the revolutionary films that is shown many times every April 30th, and is always welcomed by audiences of many generations.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and then regularly keep in touch with “nun Huyen Trang” - Meritorious Artist Thanh Loan - a special character in this film. She is now over 70 years old but still retains the elegant beauty and especially the sharp eyes of “nun Huyen Trang” of nearly 4 decades ago! In the historic days of April, asking her about “Saigon Special Forces”, the memories of the days of filming this film came back strongly to her! She shared: “Those films were not only a challenge in acting, but also a harsh test of physical strength. The battle scenes, bombs, smoke and fire were all done completely real, without the support of cinematic effects”. Asked about memorable scenes in the film, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loan sadly recalled the scene of being tortured by electricity - one of the most challenging scenes of the film: "I had to act out the convulsive movements of the person being electrocuted, but as soon as the villains poured cold water on him, he had to immediately change his expression, twitch his facial muscles to wake up, showing his resilience". "Who is Z8? Who is Z20?", the audience will never forget the horrific torture with the haunting interrogation voice of the enemy towards the little girl of the special forces. Or the character of the little newspaper girl having her leg tendons cut, being tortured in a barrel full of snakes - these are also extremely haunting scenes...
“Saigon Commandos” with the inhuman tortures of the enemy are just typical examples, because there are many brutal scenes of war from real life that are recreated in movies, helping us visualize most clearly the sacrifices of the small Vietnamese people whose flesh and skin have turned into bronze and steel to fight steadfastly and uncompromisingly against the enemy.
Many people wonder, many revolutionary war movies are good but do not have a happy ending. I would like to say that: when the movie ends, when our tears are wiped away, we look up at the blue sky of freedom, that is the most beautiful ending! A sky of freedom, peace, and happiness before our eyes is the most beautiful continuation that the heroes and martyrs only know how to fight selflessly but will never see.
A young person, while watching a historical film, was moved to write on his personal page: “And if today, you can freely go through your youth with your dreams, don’t forget: there are people who have stopped, so that you can move on”. Yes! We cannot and must not forget!
