Brazil will play Costa Rica in the first round of Group D of the 2024 Copa America at SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, USA) this morning, June 25. Coach Dorival Junior's team needs a two-goal win to take the top spot in the group, because in the early match of Group D, Colombia won 2-1 against Paraguay.

After the opening whistle, Brazil quickly took control of the game, but the South American team could not increase the speed of the game and continuously pressurize. Costa Rica took the initiative to play a high-level defense, with a slow and steady style of play, the Central American team effectively prevented the opponent's attacks.

Costa Rica blocked Brazil's attacks well.

Brazil still created chances, but very few of them were really difficult for goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira. Costa Rica's last stopper showed good form through reasonable situations of entering and exiting, making sure saves.

In the 30th minute, the Brazilian players arranged a free kick, Marquinhos kicked the ball into Costa Rica's net. However, VAR intervened when it was determined that a Brazilian player participating in the free kick was offside, so the goal was disallowed.

After a stalemate in the first 45 minutes, Brazil played harder in the second half, but the more Costa Rica played, the more they showed their solidity and understanding of their opponents. Brazil's best chance of the second half came in the 63rd minute, Paqueta's shot from outside the penalty area bounced off the post.

Costa Rica's strong play forced Brazil to raise their guard.

Costa Rica defended well, but they were unable to mount a sharp counter-attack against Brazil. Coach Gustavo Alfaro's team only had three shots in the entire match and the ball was never on target for Alisson, who stood still for most of the 90 minutes.

Unable to score, the two teams drew 0-0 after 90 minutes of play. With one point, Brazil and Costa Rica are ranked 2nd and 3rd in Group D, behind Colombia. In the second match, Brazil will play Uruguay and Costa Rica will play Colombia (June 29).
