Sa Huynh salt fields are located along National Highway 1, in Pho Thanh Ward, Duc Pho Town ( Quang Ngai ) and about 60 km south of Quang Ngai City center. Every year, Sa Huynh salt fields supply about 6,500 - 7,000 tons of salt to the Central Highlands region.
Salt making in Sa Huynh has been established for more than 200 years, is a unique traditional craft of Quang Ngai, has representative character, shows the identity of the community - locality, passed down through many generations and is voluntarily committed to be protected by the community of Sa Huynh (Pho Thanh).

Sa Huynh salt farmers produce salt using the traditional manual method from ancient times: drying water to disperse and crystallize on traditional ground (using sunlight and wind to evaporate on salt fields).

Salt making season usually begins in the first lunar month and lasts until the seventh lunar month every year.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said that Sa Huynh salt fields have all the conditions and criteria for developing community tourism . These are tourism resources, community conditions, and infrastructure.

On December 10, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to recognize Sa Huynh salt making as a national intangible cultural heritage.
