VFF terminates contract with coach Philippe Troussier

On the night of March 26, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) issued a press release announcing that the Federation and the head coach of the National Football Team Philippe Troussier have reached an agreement to terminate the contract effective March 26, 2024.

Immediately after the return match between the Vietnam National Team and the Indonesia National Team ended with a score of 0-3 in favor of Indonesia, in the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Asia on the evening of March 26 at My Dinh Stadium ( Hanoi ), the Vietnam Football Federation and head coach Philippe Troussier had a discussion about the working process as head coach of the Vietnam National Team and the Vietnam U23 Team.

At the meeting, the Vietnam Football Federation and the head coach of the Vietnam National Team - Mr. Philippe Troussier reached an agreement to terminate the contract from March 26, 2024.

The defeat against Indonesia has left the Vietnamese team with almost no chance of advancing to the third qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Asia. With a record of 1 win and 3 losses in Group F, Vietnam currently has only 3 points and is almost certain to be eliminated with only two remaining matches against the Philippines (June 6) and Iraq (June 11).

Coach Philippe Troussier thanked the players, clubs, the Vietnam Football Federation and fans for their support. He also apologized to Vietnamese fans for the team's performance not meeting expectations.

For its part, the Vietnam Football Federation acknowledges Mr. Philipe Troussier’s efforts and contributions in the recent past, as he has always worked with a high sense of responsibility and professionalism. The Federation wishes him and his family good health and happiness.

The Vietnam Football Federation also apologizes to domestic football fans because the performance of the Vietnam National Team in recent times has not met the set goals; at the same time, it hopes that fans will continue to place their trust and support in Vietnamese football in general and the national football teams in particular.
