Eating green grapes is the trend that Vietnamese youth most enthusiastically respond to on New Year's Day. Videos shared on social media platforms quickly attract millions of views.
The image of young people hastily crawling under the table to eat grapes when the clock struck midnight on January 1st made many people curious. In fact, they did that because they wanted everything to go smoothly in the new year.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Dang Nguyen (26 years old, Hanoi ) - the person who started the grape eating trend - said: "I heard from friends that if you eat all 12 green grapes under the table in the first few seconds of the new year, everything will be smooth.
Since there was nothing to do, my boyfriend and I decided to try eating grapes. Anyway, we just needed to prepare grapes in advance, so it didn't take much effort."
Easy to make and simple ingredients are the reasons why young people are not afraid to "follow the trend" in the hope of a peaceful new year. They even have more faith in this trend when they see people who did it last year "get their wishes come true".
This trend has been around for many years. Some people believe that eating grapes at the beginning of the year is most effective for love affairs.

A content creator nicknamed Cá Dolphin posted a video proving that she ate grapes last year and she met her boyfriend again and proposed. Since then, many people have more faith in this trend.
In fact, eating 12 green grapes on New Year's Eve is a tradition that is practiced primarily in Spain and some Latin American countries. According to NPR, each grape is said to represent a month of the year. If you eat them all, you will have good luck in the new year, especially in love.
Many young people have not researched carefully and have rushed to "follow the trend", leading to some variations. Instead of green grapes, they prepare purple or red grapes. Some people even eat a whole bunch of grapes instead of 12 grapes.
Because they are so worried that they won't be able to eat all 12 grapes at the exact moment of New Year's Eve, many people even try to practice beforehand.

Previously, in addition to the trend of eating green grapes, young people also spread many other forms of wishing for good luck in the new year. For example, they believe that watching fireworks with their lover will help couples bond and become stronger.
However, the online community believes that these trends are just a matter of luck. The proof is that many people ate green grapes last year but they still haven't met their "other half" at the present time.
