Eliminate the need to consider academic records to be fair to candidates

In recent years, the admission score of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education based on academic records has been very high. To become a future teacher, candidates must have an excellent academic record and a total score of 3 admission subjects above 29, even up to 29.81 for some majors. So why did the school abandon this method?

Speaking to VietNamNet reporter, Dr. Huynh Trung Phong, Director of the Center for Student Support and Startup Development, said that the school stopped considering high school transcripts to ensure fairness and transparency, create favorable conditions for candidates and ensure improving input quality, meeting the requirements of the modern labor market. The school does not use the admission method based on high school results and only retains the threshold conditions to ensure input quality, meeting the requirements according to the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

"In the orientation of using specialized competency assessment tests as the main method, the school organizes specialized competency assessment tests as an independent test. It is expected that this method will include using 2 subjects for admission to each major, in which 1 main subject is multiplied by a coefficient of 2 and 1 secondary subject is not multiplied by a coefficient, helping to comprehensively assess the learning capacity and suitability of candidates with the requirements of each major," said Mr. Phong.

According to Mr. Phong, the school will adjust the admission combinations to suit the high school graduation exam subjects from 2025. In the immediate future, it will still ensure to maintain the admission combinations of 2024 in the methods using high school graduation exam scores suitable for the subjects from 2025. At the same time, the school will adjust the combinations that are no longer suitable, such as eliminating the combinations with the Natural Science and Social Science exams, adding new combinations with the subjects of Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, and Technology.

From 2025, the admission methods and quota ratio will be direct admission (PT1) according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, about 10% of the quota; Priority admission and admission of specialized class students (PT2) about 10-20%; Admission based on specialized competency assessment exam (PT3): 40-50%. It is expected that more than 30 majors will use this method. Admission based on the 2024 high school graduation exam (PT4) about 20-40% for majors with PT3 or 70-80% for majors without PT3.

For the branch of the University of Education in Long An province, it is expected to enroll 8 university majors, including PreschoolEducation , Primary Education, Physical Education, National Defense - Security Education, Mathematics Pedagogy, Literature Pedagogy, English Pedagogy, History - Geography Pedagogy and 1 college major, Preschool Education. Of which, there are 2 new majors compared to 2024, which are National Defense - Security Education and History - Geography Pedagogy.

The branch of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Gia Lai province plans to enroll 3 university majors: Preschool Education, Primary Education, Natural Science Pedagogy, and 1 college major: Preschool Education.

The National Defense and Security Education sector will recruit students through aptitude tests. The school has added an aptitude test specifically for this sector. The selection method includes 1 cultural subject (from the specialized competency assessment test or the high school graduation exam) and 2 aptitude tests. This helps to accurately assess the candidate's ability and create conditions for selecting candidates with suitable abilities.

"In addition, the school also added priority admission subjects. Accordingly, students from all classes of high schools under Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (practical high schools) will be added to the priority admission list for university," Mr. Phong informed.
