Stirring up the story of a school spending nearly 200 million VND from parent fund in Thanh Hoa

(NLDO)- A primary school in Thanh Hoa was reported to have spent nearly 200 million VND of parent funds on school activities for the 2024-2025 school year.

On the morning of May 26, speaking with Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen The Anh, Chairman of Nghi Son Town People's Committee, Thanh Hoa Province, said he had learned about the posting on Facebook about the revenues and expenditures at Hai Thanh A Primary School (Hai Thanh Commune, Nghi Son Town).

According to Mr. Nguyen The Anh, immediately after learning about the incident, this morning, May 26, the town assigned the Departmentof Education and Training to work with the school to clarify the matter.

The school where the incident related to parent fund receipts and expenditures caused a stir

Previously, over the past 2 days, some Facebook accounts posted the income and expenditure of Hai Thanh A Primary School, causing a stir in public opinion. This information then spread rapidly on many forums.

The content reflects the school's parent fund-related revenues and expenditures, including many expenses that parents consider unreasonable and not in accordance with regulations, such as: spending money on buying student desks and chairs for the 2024-2025 school year; money for drums; money for installing electrical systems; money for replacing window glass; money for tiling the stage; money for repairing the water pipe system; money for buying water tanks... with a total amount of more than 103 million VND.

In addition, the parent fund also spent up to 81 million VND on expenses such as: 3 million VND for tea for the parent executive committee meeting; 4.8 million VND for the school-wide parent meeting to buy tea; money to support excellent students in exams, up to 7 million VND for bonuses, 18.7 million VND for Tet gifts for teachers and staff...

Regarding this, Ms. Le Thi Quy, Principal of Hai Thanh A Primary School, said she was very surprised by the information posted on social networks. According to Ms. Quy's explanation, the amount of 103 million VND is socialized money, not parent fund money.

"With this amount of money, the school has developed a plan to mobilize funding for facilities for the 2024-2025 school year. The plan has been approved in principle by the People's Committee of Hai Thanh Ward and the Department of Education and Training of Nghi Son Town. After the funds were mobilized, the school has carried out a number of items according to the plan and has complete exhibits, documents and records" - the report sent to the People's Committee of Nghi Son Town stated.

Also according to the report, with the parent fund, at the beginning of the school year, parents planned to agree with the school to build a fund for the parent representative committee and raised 81,220,000 VND.

Spending on board activities as well as supporting student activities during the school year. Spending on drinks for the parent-teacher conference is practical, because the school has 1,034 students with 24 classes, spending an average of 200,000 VND/class.

Parents support students' training for excellent sports competitions at the town and provincial levels in the 2024-2025 school year and support rewards for students with achievements at the end of the school year... all collection and payment contents are done by parents.
