Improving nutrition and physical health for children in remote areas, especially those inhabited by ethnic minorities, is the responsibility of the entire society, from government levels to the people. Action programs focus on addressing malnutrition, ensuring balanced and appropriate diets; reducing the rate of stunting and underweight children during the critical period of physical development, and creating conditions for children to develop optimally both physically and intellectually.
A nutritious meal not only improves physical health but also forms the foundation for learning, character development, and sustainable growth. Within the framework of the "Nutrition for Poor and Disabled Children" program for the period 2022–2027, launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society , the Provincial Red Cross Society has actively implemented a school milk program for disadvantaged children. Activities are carried out through mobilizing businesses, organizations, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to provide regular support in the form of sponsorship, scholarships, milk donations, bicycles, and school supplies.
Notably, in 2024, the Provincial Red Cross Society, in coordination with Nutifood Nutrition Joint Stock Company, organized 23 donation drives, providing 2,471 cartons of milk to children in remote and disadvantaged areas of the province, with a total value of nearly 1.3 billion VND. Among these, Quang La Commune Kindergarten and Dan Chu Commune Kindergarten (Ha Long City) were two beneficiary schools, with over 300 students receiving milk to improve their health and physical development.
Beyond simply providing milk, the Provincial Red Cross Society also appealed for donations to repair and upgrade the school canteen at Cao Son Kindergarten in Hoanh Mo commune (Binh Lieu district), helping to improve the quality of meals and living conditions for the students.
From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the Provincial Red Cross Society, in coordination with sponsors, has donated gifts and nutritional milk to over 12,750 children in remote areas, with a total value of 4.1 billion VND. From now until the end of 2025, the program will continue to be maintained and expanded, targeting poor and disabled children in border and island areas, with regular mobilization of support resources.
It can be affirmed that the "Nutrition for Poor and Disabled Children" program has received and continues to receive attention from Party committees, government authorities, the people, and the support of many charitable organizations and individuals, creating favorable conditions for the Red Cross at all levels to implement it effectively.
Simultaneously, the Provincial Association for the Protection of Disabled and Orphaned Children (NKT-TMC) has intensified its efforts in raising awareness and community responsibility in caring for and supporting disabled, orphaned, and disadvantaged children in remote areas. The Association has mobilized numerous social resources to provide scholarships, bicycles, and school supplies, while also organizing monthly sponsorship programs, donating goods, and thousands of cartons of milk to disadvantaged children, contributing to reducing malnutrition among ethnic minority communities.
To improve the effectiveness of child care and protection, unified direction is needed among all levels, sectors, and socio -political organizations from the provincial to the grassroots level. Simultaneously, it is necessary to strengthen communication and change behaviors and habits regarding nutrition in the community; organize training courses on preventing malnutrition, maternal and child health care, helping to improve awareness, enhance physical health, and ensure a sustainable future for the younger generation, especially in disadvantaged areas.
