On the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related conferences in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 7, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the warm regards of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to the President of Bangladesh; congratulated and appreciated Bangladesh's recent achievements in becoming the world's second largest exporter of garment products and its efforts to green the industry.
The two leaders emphasized that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Bangladesh has a similar historical foundation, spanning decades of struggle for independence, and political trust and friendship nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
On that solid foundation and after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023), the relationship between the two countries has been developing strongly. The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of high-level delegations through the Party, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people channels, and to coordinate in preparing for the upcoming visit to Bangladesh by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin affirmed to continue sharing experiences in socio-economic development, attracting foreign investment through green and clean production, especially in the textile and footwear sectors; actively promoting the connection between businesses of the two countries and increasing investment; discussing and soon establishing direct flights, facilitating visas to promote people-to-people exchanges and expand tourism cooperation; and promoting cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, transportation, education and training, disaster management, and climate change response.
The President of Bangladesh assessed that trade and investment cooperation has developed impressively in recent times, with two-way trade turnover increasing four times in 10 years; encouraged Vietnamese enterprises to be interested in investing in Bangladesh; affirmed to create favorable conditions for Vietnam to expand exports of key products; closely coordinate to ensure food security; including effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on Rice Trade for the period 2022-2027.
The two leaders affirmed that they will actively cooperate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially the United Nations, contributing to building a peaceful, stable, cooperative and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
