According to VNA correspondent in Geneva, Ambassador - Head of the Vietnamese Delegation in Geneva Mai Phan Dung on April 9 received and worked with the Asia -Pacific Department of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the cooperation situation between WIPO and Vietnam.
At a working session with Director of the WIPO Asia- Pacific Department, Mr. Andrew Ong and a number of senior experts of the Department regarding the cooperation between WIPO and Vietnam in the field of intellectual property, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung expressed his joy at the close cooperation between WIPO and Vietnam.
The Ambassador affirmed the importance of intellectual property for economic development and emphasized the Vietnamese Government's interest in intellectual property, especially in the context of Vietnam's commitment to reducing emissions, where the application of new technology is an important solution.
At the meeting, the representative of the WIPO Asia-Pacific Department also reviewed the cooperation activities with Vietnam in the past time, especially with the Intellectual Property Office, the Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation (Ministry of Science and Technology), the Copyright Office (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism)...
Some notable areas of bilateral cooperation include establishing an Intellectual Property Training Institute in Vietnam to improve skills and knowledge for experts, entrepreneurs and civil servants; supporting Vietnamese small and medium enterprises and startups to participate in WIPO's online networks, allowing them to share experiences in using intellectual property tools in business; including intellectual property in training programs for young diplomats and trade negotiators; supporting Vietnam to improve laws related to innovation and intellectual property; supporting Vietnam to develop human resources, especially improving the skills needed to access and best use global science and technology databases; supporting Vietnam in building customized innovation indicators at the local level.
In addition, the two sides are also implementing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement Vietnam's national intellectual property strategy. WIPO has also welcomed many high-ranking delegations from Vietnam at both central and local levels.
Mr. Andrew Ong said that WIPO highly values cooperation with Vietnam and believes that Vietnam is a bright spot in innovation activities as well as supporting small and medium-sized enterprises owned by women.
Mr. Andrew Ong was very impressed with the success stories of Vietnamese small and medium enterprises in applying knowledge of intellectual property in business and said that WIPO has also shared these examples on the WIPO website to encourage, spread further and support businesses to promote their image, access target markets and increase exports.
Ambassador Mai Phan Dung thanked and appreciated WIPO's effective support in implementing technical assistance projects and improving professional capacity for human resources in the field of intellectual property in Vietnam.
The Ambassador pledged to continue strengthening the cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese Delegation in Geneva and WIPO and hoped that WIPO would continue to support Vietnam in activities related to intellectual property./.
