Dedicated platform for 5G testing, design and training

This modern facility is part of Cisco's National Digital Transformation Acceleration (CDA) Program, serving as a testing and evaluation facility for 5G RON solutions based on specific needs, while also providing hands-on technology training to customers.

This initiative contributes to supporting the Government in implementing the National Digital Transformation Program for the 2025-2030 period, in which nationwide 5G coverage and promoting innovation with AI are key pillars.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Dung, General Director of Cisco Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, shared: "The 5G RON Lab is an important step in building 5G capabilities in Vietnam, through the development and verification of practical application models. This specialized lab will promote growth for network operators and enterprises by providing a collaborative environment for research, testing and expansion of innovative applications of 5G RON. This solution helps Vietnamese enterprises effectively exploit the power of AI and new technologies, through a secure infrastructure, ready for the future."

5G technology combined with Cisco’s RON architecture is opening up breakthroughs in broadband, IoT, smart factories and AI applications, thereby promoting innovation and optimizing efficiency across Vietnam. However, businesses are still facing many challenges such as high investment costs, complex integrated systems and a shortage of high-quality technical human resources.

The lab addresses these challenges by creating a testbed for operators and enterprises to test the speed, scalability, and business value of the 5G RON architecture, tailored to their real-world needs.

Cisco RON technology integrates the IP and optical layers into a unified, streamlined infrastructure to support faster, scalable, and cost-effective 5G network deployments.

Additionally, the solution delivers a single, automated, AI-ready network that simplifies operations while improving energy efficiency.

With the ability to upgrade bandwidth up to 400Gbs, even 1.2Tbs, this architecture helps to greatly enhance network connectivity, accelerate 5G deployment progress, significantly shorten testing time and create a foundation for large-scale AI applications in Vietnam.

Supporting service diversification in the 5G era and moving towards 6G

Cisco's 5G RON Lab is contributing to promoting digital transformation in Vietnam, facilitating the application of AI and deploying new generation connections for service providers, businesses and people across the country.

For network operators, Cisco RON technology helps network operators build flexible, scalable, and cost-effective 5G systems, while being ready to provide AI application services, advanced data analytics, and exploit new revenue streams. Unlike traditional optical networks, RON allows network operators to dynamically configure transmission lines according to service needs and network loads.

This is especially important when deploying 5G network slices, simultaneously serving many different types of services such as IoT, self-driving cars, AR/VR.

For enterprises, business organizations benefit from rapid 5G network deployment, simpler network management, and the ability to quickly test and operationalize AI application initiatives in areas such as manufacturing, healthcare , and smart cities.

For citizens, upgraded digital services, more stable network connections and wider access to digital technology are helping Vietnamese people actively participate in the digital economy and benefit from the remarkable advances of AI and 5G.

In addition, the 5G RON Lab is also a skills training center, equipping Vietnamese network engineers with knowledge of advanced technologies such as RON, Segment Routing, ACI and automation.

As a result, many pilot customers – including the two largest network operators in the country and leading enterprises in Vietnam and ASEAN – have been taking advantage of this lab to test interoperability, validate AI applications and accelerate network modernization.

The RON Laboratory is not only a "technical springboard" for building high-speed 5G infrastructure, but also a strategic tool for network operators to improve investment efficiency, diversify services and increase competitiveness in the 5G era and towards 6G./.
