Vietnam - Russian Federation: Strengthening strategic cooperation in science, technology and innovation

At the invitation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, from September 23-28, a working delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam led by Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat is visiting and working in the Russian Federation.

On September 24, the working delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology had a working session with the Ministry of Science and HigherEducation of the Russian Federation to exchange, discuss and agree on measures to implement the agreements reached in the Joint Statement during the State visit to Vietnam by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in June 2024.

Welcoming the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation VI Falkov emphasized that Vietnam and the Russian Federation have a traditional friendly relationship. The Russian Federation always attaches importance to educational and scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Minister VI Falkov recalled a number of important milestones in cooperation in education and science and technology between the two countries, most recently at the 25th Session of the Vietnam - Russian Federation Intergovernmental Committee on September 11, 2024, both countries affirmed to continue to strengthen and constantly develop the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, the traditional friendship between the two countries and the two peoples.

Within the framework of the 25th Session of the Vietnam - Russia Intergovernmental Committee, the two sides held the 5th Session of the Russia - Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Education and Science and Technology to summarize, evaluate and review cooperation contents, and determine cooperation directions for the coming period...

Expressing his pleasure to visit and work with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat said that along with the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science, technology and innovation is increasingly growing in both breadth and depth.

In November 2014, the two governments signed an agreement on strategic partnership in the fields of education and science and technology, marking an important milestone in science and technology cooperation between the two countries. To date, the two countries have made significant progress in strengthening and developing mutually beneficial cooperation in education, training, science and technology and innovation.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the 10-year implementation of the Agreement, exchanged, discussed and agreed on specific directions and measures to strengthen and deepen the strategic cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in the fields of science, technology and innovation.

Minister Huynh Thanh Dat proposed a number of directions and contents of cooperation between the two sides such as: Annually organizing meetings of the Vietnam - Russian Federation Cooperation Committee on Education and Science and Technology; annually organizing the selection of joint research cooperation tasks; strengthening cooperation in basic research, basic research oriented towards application in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, marine sciences...

At the same time, promote the exchange, cooperation and transfer of new technologies suitable to Vietnam's conditions in the areas of strength of the Russian Federation such as materials technology (advanced materials, including metals, polymers and high-tech materials), new energy, environmentally friendly energy and resource saving, information and communication technology, nanotechnology, automation and machine manufacturing, artificial intelligence technology; increase the exchange of delegations to participate in major science, technology and innovation events held in the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed and expressed their belief that the strategic partnership in science, technology and innovation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation will have breakthrough developments, contributing to the socio-economic development in each country./.
