On the morning of September 6, information from the Ministry of Education and Training said that on the night of September 5 (Vietnam time), the Ministry of Education and Training received information about the official results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese national team consisted of 4 students competing, and 4/4 students won medals, including: 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, and 1 Bronze Medal.
Specifically, the two students who won the Gold Medal are: Pham Cong Minh, a 12th grader; Hoang Xuan Bach, a 11th grader; both students study at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 10th grader from the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, won the Silver Medal. Pham Ngoc Trung, a 12th grader from the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, won the Bronze Medal.
The 36th IOI will be held in person from September 1 to September 6, 2024 in Alexandria, Egypt. The 2024 IOI will be attended by 353 contestants from 91 countries and territories (in addition to Russia, Belarus and Australia competing under the Olympic flag) and 9 contestants competing online from Israel, Iran and Germany.
With 100% of the contestants winning medals, the Vietnam National IOI Team is in the group of 4 countries and territories with the highest results according to the medal tally, after the US, Japan and Poland (according to the results announced on the website of the IOI 2024 Organizing Committee, not ranking the IOI Russia and Israel teams).
In 2023, the Vietnam IOI Team is in the group of 9 countries with the highest results according to the medal tally with 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.
According to the regulations of the IOI Council 2024, the International Olympiad in Informatics has two official competition days. On each competition day, candidates will take a 5-hour computer programming test and solve 3 problems with rich content.
Results are automatically graded online by the system and live scorecards are published throughout the two exam days (online).
The outstanding achievements of the Vietnamese national team at IOI 2024 continue to affirm the position of Vietnameseeducation in the top intellectual arena, while affirming the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The IOI 2024 Organizing Committee will hold the Closing and Award Ceremony on Friday, September 6 (starting at 7pm - Egypt time).
