On September 20, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) held a ceremony to celebrate the 67th anniversary of Malaysia's National Day. Attending the ceremony were City Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong; Malaysian Consul General in HCMC Firdauz Othman.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong congratulated the Malaysian Consul General and the Malaysian community living in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of National Day. At the same time, he thanked the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the business community and Malaysian people, and all friends of Vietnam for their encouragement and support to people affected by the recent natural disaster.
Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong expressed his impression of the cooperation in many fields between the two countries in recent times. Particularly for Ho Chi Minh City, as of early 2024, the total registered direct investment capital from Malaysia reached more than 4.8 billion USD, ranking 6th among countries and territories investing in the City. Two-way trade in 2023 reached more than 5.5 billion USD.

Appreciating the efforts of the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in promoting the friendship and cooperation between the two sides, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong believes that with the solid foundation that has been built, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia in general, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysia in particular, will continue to develop strongly in the coming time.
Mr. Firdauz Othman, Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, noted that after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the cooperative relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam has become increasingly strong and achieved important milestones, including upgrading the relationship to Strategic Partnership in 2015.

In the economic field, in 2023, Malaysia was Vietnam's 10th largest trading partner, while Vietnam was Malaysia's 11th largest trading partner in the world. Among ASEAN member states, Vietnam is Malaysia's 4th largest trading partner. In terms of people-to-people exchanges, Malaysia and Vietnam have also become important partners in the tourism industry. There are currently 146 direct flights between the two countries.
Appreciating the dynamism and rich economic and investment potential of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Firdauz Othman said that the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to cooperate closely with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education and cultural exchange...
On August 9, within the framework of his visit and work in Malaysia, Party Central Committee member and National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh greeted Malaysian House of Representatives Speaker Tan Sri Dato' Johari Bin Abdul and held talks with Malaysian Senate Deputy President Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed at the Malaysian Parliament Headquarters. |
On the evening of August 23, the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association (MVFA) and the University of Malaya organized a cultural exchange night to connect friendship. The event attracted hundreds of overseas Vietnamese and lecturers and students of the school. |
