Vietnamese sports race for SEA Games
The Vietnamese sports delegation is "sprinting" the final preparation stages, as the 33rd SEA Games is approaching.
In turn, at the 31st SEA Games (held at home) and the 32nd SEA Games (Cambodia), Vietnamese athletes excellently won first place overall.
At the 31st SEA Games, Vietnamese sports broke the record with 446 medals (205 gold, 125 silver, 116 bronze). One year later, the number of medals decreased to 355 (136 gold, 105 silver, 114 bronze), but the top position still proves the stability of the Vietnamese delegation in the Southeast Asian playground.

However, speaking to the press on the morning of November 12, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, affirmed that it is not easy for Vietnamese sports to repeat the achievements of previous SEA Games, when regional opponents, especially host Thailand, are preparing thoroughly and bringing strong forces.
"The preparations for the SEA Games have entered the final stage. The athletes are receiving high-level care and attention. We have arranged additional medical staff to monitor them after training sessions and help them recover.
The Vietnamese sports delegation will receive the best care both materially and spiritually. The athletes are in good spirits, comfortable and confident to aim for a successful event," Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh shared.
Responding to Thanh Nien Newspaper's question about the goal of the Vietnamese sports delegation, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh replied: "We aim to be one of the leading countries at the SEA Games, maybe in the top 2 or top 3. The race at the 33rd SEA Games will be very fierce and difficult, when countries have prepared carefully.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese sports delegation was at a disadvantage when some of its strong events were not included in the competition program by the host country.

Countries are also determined with a large number of athletes participating in the 33rd SEA Games. They want to achieve the highest results. In particular, Thailand also aims to win a large number of medals, about 240-270 gold medals out of 540 sets of medals at the Games. That is a factor that can affect. However, the Vietnamese sports delegation will strive to achieve the goal."
Regarding the number of medals, Mr. Minh affirmed that the sports industry will review it again to report specifically to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. "However, whether the number of medals is large or small, the Vietnamese sports delegation must be in the top 2 or top 3. Hopefully, it will be in the top 2," the sports industry leader expressed.
