On April 21, the US Department of Commerce announced that it would impose tariffs on solar panels from four Southeast Asian countries, with an average tax rate of 395.9% for Vietnamese businesses, with four businesses facing tariffs of up to 800%.

Commenting on this content at a regular press conference this afternoon, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated, “Vietnam is willing to discuss with US agencies to jointly resolve difficulties, ensuring that relevant information is considered objectively, fairly, and in accordance with international practices, thereby facilitating the promotion of bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.

We are committed to promoting fair and transparent trade activities while protecting the legitimate rights of enterprises operating in Vietnam.

Three days ago, the US imposed new tariffs on most solar panels from Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Specifically, anti-dumping and anti-subsidy taxes on Jinko Solar products from Malaysia are subject to the lowest tax rate in the group, 41.56%. Products of rival Trina Solar at its Thai factory are subject to a tax of 375.19%, and Vietnam's is 58-271%.

Meanwhile, solar panels from Cambodia will be subject to a tariff of more than 3,500%.

These tariffs do not include the 10% base tariff that the Trump administration has imposed since early April on most goods from major trading partners.

If passed, these tariffs could have a major impact on the global clean energy supply chain, while also increasing trade tensions between the US, China and Southeast Asian countries.
