From July 1-7, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the 43rd Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference took place, with the program to elect the FAO Director-General for the 2023-2027 term and high-level roundtable conferences revolving around the topic of integrated water resources management.

The meeting was attended by two Deputy Prime Ministers and about 120 Ministers and Deputy Ministers of member countries. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to FAO, along with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , Ministry of Planning and Investment and Ministry of Finance. According to a VNA correspondent in Rome, the Ministerial Conference, which takes place every two years, is tasked with approving the FAO's work program and budget for the next two years, making recommendations on food and agricultural issues and reviewing global governance policy issues. At the opening session of the FAO Conference, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam - Coordinating Minister for Social Policy of Singapore and also Co-Chair of the UN Global Commission on Water Economics, emphasized the need to enhance the effectiveness of water resources management to achieve global poverty reduction, climate and environmental goals. Mr. Shanmugaratnam also mentioned the successful innovation in Vietnam in reducing water use in farming by using sensors and innovative irrigation practices. The VnSAT project supports farmers with water-saving irrigation systems (drip and sprinkler irrigation) which have brought great efficiency when put into use in agricultural cultivation, helping farmers save money and time.
