Vietnam joins the Executive Committee of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution

On July 3, the International Friends of the Algerian Revolution was established in the Algerian capital of Algiers. Mr. Vo Hong Nam, son of General Vo Nguyen Giap, and Mr. Tran Van Binh, son of Senior Lieutenant General Tran Van Quang - generals who made great contributions to the Dien Bien Phu victory - were elected as members of the Executive Committee of the Association.

According to a VNA correspondent in Algiers, on the occasion of the closing of the year commemorating the 60th anniversary of the regaining of national sovereignty and the 61st anniversary of Algeria's Independence Day, the International Friends of the Algerian Revolution was established under the auspices of the Algerian Ministry of Veterans and Meritorious People. With the aim of recognizing and expressing gratitude for the solidarity, support and sacrifice of international peoples for the Algerian revolution, while contributing to spreading humanistic values ​​and promoting friendship among nations, contributing to strengthening world peace, the Association has gathered 70 delegates from more than 30 countries around the world, including two delegates from Vietnam, Mr. Vo Hong Nam and Mr. Tran Van Binh. Diplomat and former Algerian ambassador Noureddine Djoudi was elected President of the Association. Former Mozambique President Joaquim Chissano was appointed Honorary President. Two delegates from Vietnam were elected as members out of 13 members of the Association's Executive Committee. Vietnam was especially honored for its contributions to the national liberation movement in general and the Algerian revolution in particular. International delegates and Algerian friends attending the Association's founding conference all expressed their admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap; considered Vietnam a model in the struggle for national liberation and in national development; and wished that Vietnam would continue to play a more active role in promoting peace and progress in the world. Speaking to a VNA reporter, Mr. Vo Hong Nam expressed that the Algerian people are very hospitable, especially their affection for President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and for the liberation war of the Vietnamese people. After the Dien Bien Phu victory, this historic victory had a great influence on the colonies and the national liberation movement. Algerian friends since 1958 have come to Vietnam to learn about the experience of people's war, liberation war, to conduct the war of liberation and destroy the colonial regime, and then in 1962 become an independent country.

On the afternoon of July 2, Mr. Vo Hong Nam and Mr. Tran Van Binh also had a thematic meeting with the Party cell of the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria. At the meeting, the two men exchanged and introduced to the Party members, especially the younger generation, many interesting information about the Dien Bien Phu victory, the hardships of our army and people during the campaign, and the personalities and styles of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The talk took place in a friendly and lively atmosphere, helping the participants clarify many issues and become more proud of the resounding victory of our nation.
