Continuing the tradition of 'loyalty and steadfastness'

This is an important activity to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Southern Uprising, to educate the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of fighting against foreign invaders and to show gratitude to revolutionary generations, contributing to arousing national pride and strength in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Attending the ceremony were former President Truong Tan Sang; Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Phuoc; People's Armed Forces Heroes Tran Van Nam and Nguyen Van Minh; representatives of departments, branches, armed forces and union members, youth and students of Hau Nghia commune.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Ninh Province Le Van Han stated that the Duc Lap victory is an important part of the achievement of "Loyalty, steadfastness, the whole people fight the enemy" that the Party and State awarded to the army and people of Long An in 1967. This is a priceless historical heritage, reminding today's generation to continue to study, practice, and join hands to build a rich and beautiful homeland. Mr. Le Van Han suggested that Hau Nghia commune - where the Duc Lap victory was marked - continue to promote its role in preserving and educating revolutionary traditions; promote propaganda of local history, care for people with meritorious services, build memorial works and organize educational activities for youth.

Former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Long An province Nguyen Thanh Tuan used to be the Deputy Head of the Technical Reconnaissance Team of the Military Intelligence Department under the Military Command of Long An province. He was a historical witness, a person who directly participated in the historic Duc Lap battle in the past, recalling the memories he experienced.

He shared that during the resistance war against the US imperialists, the Duc Lap area (Duc Hoa district, Long An province, bordering Tay Ninh and the old Ho Chi Minh City) held a particularly important strategic position, being a key battle point on the vital traffic route from Long An provincial capital through Cu Chi to Trang Bang. In order to cut off our corridor, the enemy concentrated on building many bases and strengthening its forces here.

In 1965, our army and people launched three consecutive large-scale battles in Duc Lap. In the first Duc Lap battle (September 29, 1965), our army completely destroyed the 33rd Ranger Battalion, eliminating 304 enemies from the battle, opening a series of important victories. In the second Duc Lap battle (October 27, 1965), continuing the motto of "fighting back and forth", we eliminated 514 enemies from the battle, dealing a heavy blow to the puppet 25th Division. In the third Duc Lap battle - the decisive battle (November 20, 1965), our army basically destroyed 2 enemy battalions and 2 companies of security and militia forces, completely liberating Duc Lap commune. After this defeat, the enemy had to abandon the post, the "Special War" strategy was bankrupt, creating a new position and strength for the revolution in the South.

At the ceremony, delegates and people looked back at the development journey of the old Long An and Tay Ninh, and said that, from the heroic tradition, the two localities have made efforts to overcome difficulties, develop the socio-economy, and make important contributions to the country's development.

The ceremony is an opportunity for all people and the entire army in the province to strengthen their determination to build a streamlined and effective apparatus, promote the strength of great solidarity, continue to write the tradition of "loyalty and steadfastness", and strive for the goal of sustainable development of the province in the new period.
