Vietnam Airlines opens direct flight Hanoi - Phnom Penh

On the evening of October 27, flight VN923 of Vietnam Airlines landed at Phnom Penh International Airport, officially opening the direct flight route Hanoi-Phnom Penh, marking an important milestone in trade connection and friendly, neighborly cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

With the newly launched direct flight, Vietnam Airlines is the only airline in Vietnam operating the Hanoi - Phnom Penh direct flight. The direct flight time is only 1 hour and 55 minutes. Previously, passengers wanting to fly from Hanoi to Phnom Penh needed nearly 3 hours, because they had to transit in Vientiane (Laos).

Vietnam Airlines will operate 4 flights per week on the Hanoi - Phnom Penh route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using Airbus A321 aircraft. The new route brings the total number of routes between Vietnam and Cambodia that the airline is operating to 5, including Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Phnom Penh; Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Siem Reap and the trans-Indochina route connecting Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Vientiane - Phnom Penh. The total number of flights between the two countries is up to 86 flights per week. Thanks to the high flight frequency and convenient connecting times for passengers from European, American and Northeast Asian markets, the route between Vietnam and Cambodia is very attractive to passengers who want to combine Vietnam with destinations in the region. Speaking at Phnom Penh International Airport, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang emphasized that the Hanoi - Phnom Penh direct flight contributes to shortening travel time between the two capitals, and is a clear demonstration of the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador recalled the event on July 13, 2024, during his State visit to Cambodia, President To Lam attended the opening ceremony of the Hanoi - Phnom Penh direct flight and after nearly 4 months of preparation, the direct flight between the two capitals officially came into operation with a frequency of 4 flights/week using modern Airbus A321 jet aircraft. Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of the Civil Aviation Authority of Cambodia Mao Havannall highly appreciated Vietnam Airlines' launch of the direct flight connecting the capital Phnom Penh and Hanoi. Over the past 30 years, since opening the route connecting Vietnam and Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines has transported nearly 8.2 million passengers and 28,400 tons of cargo on more than 81,000 flights between the two countries. Vietnam Airlines Deputy General Director Dang Anh Tuan shared: “The direct route will contribute to increasing connectivity between Vietnam and Cambodia. In addition to the role of a geographical bridge, transiting passengers or cargo, direct flights are also 'ambassadors' participating in strongly promoting bilateral relations, helping to strengthen the friendship between the two countries. At the same time, the airline also constantly improves its competitiveness and service quality, thereby best meeting the needs of customers of the two countries."
