Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife are accused of receiving a piece of land from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz to launder money while in office.

Prosecutors say Mr Khan allowed businessman Malik Riaz to use £190m of illegally laundered money to pay a fine in another case involving Mr Khan. That £190m was due to be returned to Pakistan by the UK government in 2022 for the national treasury.

However, the former prime minister has denied any wrongdoing and has insisted since his arrest in 2023 that all the charges against him are a plot by his opponents to prevent him from returning to politics.

Mr Khan was ousted in a vote of no confidence in the Pakistani parliament in April 2022.

Mr Khan was previously convicted in three separate cases on charges of corruption, revealing state secrets and violating marriage laws, with sentences of 10, 14 and seven years respectively.

Under Pakistani law, former Prime Minister Imran Khan will serve these sentences concurrently and will only serve the longest of them.
