The musical “Sans Famille” - A gift for children on the occasion of June 1st

NDO - On the occasion of International Children's Day June 1, the Youth Theater introduces to art lovers the musical "Sans Famille", adapted from the literary masterpiece of the same name by French writer Hector Malot - a work that has captivated millions of readers around the world for over a century.

“Sans Famille” is Hector Malot’s most famous work, first published in 1878. Since its publication, the novel has quickly become a literary phenomenon in France and then famous worldwide - especially loved in the fields of children's literature,education and popular culture.

The work tells the story of Remi, an orphan boy who was sold by his adoptive father to a traveling circus led by Vitalis, a kind-hearted wandering artist.

On his journey touring everywhere, from a homeless, nameless child, Remi experienced many hardships, poverty, and losses to gradually grow up, learn how to make a living on his own two feet, and finally find true relatives.

Despite being caught up in a journey of hunger, cold, lost and separation, Remi still sings to live and hope, to love and above all to find his roots. “Sans Famille” is not only a touching adventure story but also an epic about the will to live, about compassion and independence.
Through Remi's journey, readers of all ages can deeply feel the desire to be loved, to belong, and the meaning of the word family; not only blood relations, but also the place where our hearts are protected.

According to information from the Youth Theater, the musical, directed by Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet and adapted by screenwriter Bui Hong Que, was staged for the first time on stage and brought a performance full of passion. With a duration of just over an hour, the creative team skillfully distilled the best from the original work, vividly and emotionally recreating an artistic picture imbued with humanity.

Coming to the work, the audience will be led through the cold but still warm European winter scene, immersing themselves in the bustling atmosphere of Vitalis' circus with his lovely four-legged friends such as Capi the dog or Joli-Ceur the monkey. With the scenery portrayed by artist Dang Minh Tuan, the stage is dressed in the poetic beauty of a 19th century French village - both romantic and simple, imbued with a profound humanitarian spirit.

Director, Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet - who has a great passion for musical art, has affirmed herself with works that have been loved by a large audience in recent times such as: "Golden Flower Farm" (Gold Medal at the National Music and Dance Festival 2021), "Flock of Swans", "Then I Will Grow Up", "Bom's Dream"... For many years, she has cherished the passion of staging "No Family", bringing the work that has inspired many generations of young readers to the musical stage.

The unique highlight of the play is the music, which is creatively renewed from classical works, bringing a modern, familiar breath but still maintaining the emotional depth. The Vietnamese lyrics are carefully crafted and expressed through the impressive performance of the cast, talented young artists who act, sing, and dance skillfully.

“Sans Famille” is not just a play but also a gentle but profound message to each of us: “No matter what life is like, as long as we don’t give up, we will always find the light”. The musical is a spiritual gift for the whole family this summer - where the values ​​of love, willpower, compassion and the desire to love and belong will touch the hearts of every audience.

The play will be performed at the Youth Theater (No. 11 Ngo Thi Nham, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi ), in many special performances on the occasion of Children's Day June 1 and summer 2025.

“No Family” is part of a series of performances for children in the summer of 2025 called “Summer of Love 2025”, an event held annually at the Youth Theater with unique, educational and humanistic performances.

Besides “Sans Famille”, other plays such as “The Cat Who Taught the Seagull to Fly”, “The King Without a Throne”, “Elsa’s Dream”, “Zorba the Cat Detective”, “The Goblin’s Child” will continue to come to young audiences within the framework of the event “Summer of Love 2025”.
