At The Open Championship , the final major of the season, Scottie Scheffler continued to write his own script. After the second round, he leads the standings with a total score of -10.
Behind them, only Matt Fitzpatrick (-9), Brian Harman, and Li Haotong (-8) were chasing.
From there downwards is a "chasm": Rasmus Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Harris English, and Chris Gotterup are all at -5.
Rory McIlroy is currently at -3. Bryson DeChambeau had an excellent day with a score of 6 under par to make the cut, but Brooks Koepka and Collin Morikawa (both at +7) were eliminated early.
Rain poured down over Royal Portrush as the golfers competed. This significantly impacted the performance of many players, resulting in missed opportunities for birdies and even eagles.

There, Scheffler emerged as the world number one golfer – having won three PGA Tour titles since the beginning of May, including the PGA Championship major.
Scheffler birdied the first hole to boost his spirits. This was followed by a "hat-trick" of birdies on holes 5-7.
Entering the back nine, the American golfer added four more birdies but bogeyed the 11th hole. He finished the second day with a 64 (-7), maintaining his lead halfway through The Open 2025 – at -10.
“Scottie is expected to go out there and dominate , ” his opponent Fitzpatrick said of Scheffler. “ He’s an outstanding golfer . ”
Fitzpatrick emphasized: “Scottie is world number one, and we’re seeing performances similar to Tiger Woods. I think the pressure is on him to win the tournament.”
Scheffler's brilliance did not discourage Fitzpatrick – the hope of Great Britain.
After a 67 on the opening day, the 30-year-old golfer shot a 66 on the second day. He finished with a score of -9 after 36 holes and emerged as a challenger for the 2025 Open title.
Fitzpatrick 's first PGA Tour victory was the 2022 US Open, where he defeated Scheffler (and Will Zalatoris). He hadn't won a title since the RBC Heritage, so he was even more eager to conquer Royal Portrush in front of the Northern Ireland crowd.
Li Haotong, the phenomenon from China – from the same generation as Scheffler and Fitzpatrick – and Brian Harman are close behind the two leaders.
Li's career on the PGA Tour hasn't been particularly outstanding. He's been competing for the Open title, or at least aiming for the highest possible ranking at a major event – his highest achievement being a T16 finish at the 2018 US Open.
Amidst the rain and wind, DeChambeau had a completely different day of play compared to the opening round. The " scientist " shot a 65, just enough to make the cut – similar to Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama.
