“No one taxes dreams and everyone has the right to dream” to make that dream come true. The dream of bringing Vovinam to the world , one day not far away to participate in prestigious tournaments such as ASIAD or the Olympics always urges the leaders of this sect to move forward. There, the mark and role of people like Mr. Mai Huu Tin, President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation (VVF) (recently re-elected for the 4th term 2023-2028), and President of the World Vovinam Federation (WVVF) is very important.
Mr. Mai Huu Tin, Chairman of VVF and WVVF aims to bring Vovinam martial arts to the world level, soon participating in prestigious playgrounds such as ASIAD or Olympics.
Taking steady steps to help Vovinam - a Vietnamese martial art that has been around for 85 years and is now present in 70 countries across five continents - is the goal that the leaders of VVF have achieved. To be able to participate in the ASIAD or Olympic arena, Vovinam first needs to become an official sport at the SEA Games. Having been present at two consecutive Southeast Asian Games (2021 and 2023), Vovinam only needs to become an official sport at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in 2025, and it will become an official sport at each SEA Games.
And to make Vovinam an official sport at each SEA Games, from now on, Chairman Mai Huu Tin and members of VVF have taken solid steps to build for the future. Accordingly, VVF will actively mobilize countries in Southeast Asia and host Thailand to include Vovinam in the 33rd SEA Games. Before that, VVF will help Thailand prepare athletes and organize a system of Vovinam tournaments in Thailand. At the same time, VVF will conduct professional training for coaches and athletes from countries in the region, and support countries in the ASEAN region to establish a National Vovinam Federation to enhance the position of Vovinam in neighboring countries.
“When asked why they chose to learn Vovinam instead of other martial arts that have participated in the world-famous Olympic arena such as Taekwondo, Judo or Karatedo..., the most common answer I received from students was because Vovinam represents Vietnam, represents the strength of a small country that has defeated some of the world's largest powers. They diligently practice Vovinam and are willing to learn the Vietnamese language to understand more about Vietnamese culture,” said Mr. Mai Huu Tin, Chairman of VVF and Chairman of WVVF.
