Seized 100 tons of fake functional foods: Ministry of Health is coordinating to clarify the products

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on May 16, Hanoi City Police said they had just broken up a case, arrested 7 suspects, and seized over 100 tons of fake functional foods nationwide.

This line is led by Pham Ngoc Tien and his wife Doan Thi Nguyet (both born in 1988, residing at No. 1, LK 11, Xa La Urban Area, Phuc La Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi).

Accordingly, the subjects declared that they had established 17 companies, of which 6 companies were responsible for importing goods and 11 companies were responsible for distributing goods domestically.

The results of the emergency search at the locations seized 30 die-cutting molds for corrugated boxes, more than 28,500 functional food boxes, more than 34,800 functional food bottles, more than 38,900 blister packs containing functional food pills, more than 8,500 boxes containing various types of boxes, nearly 100 boxes of labels, various types of machinery, production lines, tools, raw materials... for producing counterfeit goods.

The above quantity is equivalent to more than 100 tons of goods which are functional foods and fake medical equipment (about 100 different product codes).

The subjects confessed to having produced and traded counterfeit goods since 2020 and sold them in all pharmacies and hospitals nationwide.

After two days of information that 100 tons of counterfeit functional foods and medical equipment were sold in pharmacies and hospitals nationwide, many consumers were confused.

Up to now, information about these foods is still very limited, consumers expect to soon have specific information about the products to avoid buying and using them.

The Food Safety Department is coordinating to clarify.

Regarding the information about this fake functional food production line, on May 18, the Food Safety Department said that it is coordinating with the Economic Police Department - Hanoi City Police to provide information on products declared as health protection foods of the above companies to serve the investigation to verify and clarify the seized products.

During the process of handling by the authorities, the Food Safety Department recommends that consumers absolutely do not buy or use related products as the product images and press information have posted to avoid risks affecting health and economic losses.

After the conclusion of the investigation agency of Hanoi City Police, the Food Safety Department will update information on the website about fake functional food products so that consumers know and do not use them.

The Food Safety Department also said that in order to strengthen strict management of functional foods, the Ministry of Health is currently coordinating with relevant ministries and branches to advise the Government to issue a Decree amending and supplementing Decree No. 15/2018/ND-CP.

The aim of the amendment is to enhance product quality and safety, improve the effectiveness of state management to effectively protect public health.
