At the end of April, hundreds of students at Tran Cao Van Secondary School (Phu Xuan District) were excited to have the opportunity to participate in the Book and Reading Culture Festival, organized by the Hue City Youth Union at the school.
Participating in the “Exchange books for gifts” activity, student Tran Nhu Phong shared: “I brought 5 books that I had finished reading to the festival to exchange for some school supplies. More importantly and meaningfully, my books will continue to be given to other friends who share the same interest in reading, so the books will not be wasted.”
For student Nguyen Thanh Tung, what impressed him the most was the “Storytelling from Books” program performed by the students. “The book introduced this time is “Blue Lotus” - a historical novel that touchingly recreates the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh. I will definitely buy this book to better understand his life and career.”
Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union Hoang Thi Thuy Linh said that the festival’s activities will encourage and develop the reading movement in the community. From there, it will create a favorable reading environment, forming reading habits for union members, young people and the whole society, contributing to building a learning society throughout the city.
The Book and Reading Culture Festival is one of the annual programs that Hue City youth focus on organizing with activities such as: Book exhibition and introduction contest; book donation movement; Book Quiz program; Book sharing festival; "Beauty of reading" contest; "Introducing the book that I love" painting contest; book publication design contest...
Cultivate a love of books
Recently, Hue City Youth Union has directed all levels of Youth Union - Association - Young Pioneers to develop many programs and plans to raise awareness among union members, youth and people about the importance of developing a reading culture.
Thereby, mobilizing and encouraging each individual to build and maintain reading habits suitable to each individual's conditions. At the same time, equipping reading skills and methods suitable for each target group, orienting and promoting healthy reading trends and tastes in society and promoting and replicating good models and effective methods for developing a reading culture.
Many units have proactively advised the Party Committee to choose effective forms of developing reading culture, such as: Book streets, book streets, book parks, community libraries, book culture spaces; integrating activities to promote reading culture with cultural activities of localities and units.
In addition, activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day are organized regularly and continuously throughout the year, with a peak on April 21 every year. The organization of forums, seminars, talks, thematic activities, competitions, etc. on books and reading culture; at the same time, the mobilization of donating bookcases and libraries is also promoted in peak volunteer activities such as: Spring Volunteer, Youth Month, Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, Winter Volunteer, etc.
Secretary of the City Youth Union Nguyen Thanh Hoai said that in the period of 2023 - 2025, the City Youth Union and Hue City General Library signed a cooperation program on developing a reading culture. In particular, focusing on main groups of tasks such as: Promoting propaganda through activities of the Youth Union, while taking advantage of technology platforms to spread the reading movement among each member and youth; building habits, equipping reading skills and methods; coordinating the provision and circulation of books in school and club activities; promoting mobile library services and increasing the circulation of books, newspapers, and documents from the public library system to remote areas...
“Activities to promote reading culture among young people will continue to be organized regularly and continuously. Forums, seminars, talks, thematic activities, competitions… on books and reading culture, along with activities to donate bookcases and libraries will also be integrated into volunteer activities. In particular, focusing on developing reading culture in rural areas, areas with difficult socio-economic conditions; at the same time, encouraging young people to learn, practice scientific research activities and apply knowledge and skills into practice”, Secretary of the City Youth Union Nguyen Thanh Hoai shared.
