Currently, in Cua Viet town, many ship owners have invested in installing automatic steering equipment for fishing boats. The equipment consists of 4 main parts: an electronic compass integrated with GPS with high accuracy in many different types of weather with an error of +/- 0.050, helping to determine position and stabilize the direction of travel; a 7-inch control screen with integrated data processing system; a rudder angle feedback unit designed to suit marine-standard steering systems and clutch steering wheels.

Thanks to that, when the offshore fishing boat moves, the driver only needs to choose the direction or set the destination coordinates and the machine will automatically control the fishing boat to the right location with the shortest distance. This technology not only ensures the health of the driver but also reduces travel time to the fishing ground, saves fuel, and maximizes profits for each trip.

Mr. Hoang Dinh Chien, a long-time ship owner in Cua Viet town, has invested in modern equipment for the offshore fleet, such as installing voyage monitoring equipment and updating signals to the mainland 24/7, thereby overcoming the situation where his family's fishing boats often lost signal and could not contact their families and the shore station of the Fisheries Department every time they went to sea.

The entire process of operations at sea is updated on the system and the ship owner can easily check it in the application on the phone, thereby having an effective exploitation route. When encountering adverse weather or a fishing boat in distress at sea, the positioning device will quickly send a support signal, and the rescue force will easily find the exact location of the fishing boat.

Installing a voyage monitoring device, fishing boat owners do not need to follow their fishing boats out to sea, just need a smartphone connected to the internet, the fishing boat owners at home can still know the exact location of their fishing boats at sea. Once the fishing boat comes to exploit in an unauthorized area, the device will send a warning signal for the fishing boat owner to control the fishing area.

In recent years, fishermen in the province have boldly applied modern equipment in seafood exploitation such as satellite positioning devices on fishing boats; ultrasonic fish finders that have been upgraded and improved through generations such as: vertical, horizontal and photographic detection; radar devices for net management, avoiding collisions at sea; automatic identification system AIS to ensure safety for people and fishing boats when operating at sea; HF shortwave communication devices, medium-range and long-range communication devices and up to now, communication devices with integrated satellite positioning have been applied.

The active application of digital transformation and modern equipment in seafood exploitation has contributed to solving the problem of requiring fishermen to apply electronic fishing logs.

Up to now, in the province, 184/187 fishing vessels with a length of 15 m or more have installed voyage monitoring equipment, reaching 98.39%, 100% of fishing vessels have updated fishing vessel data into the national fisheries database system (VNFishbase). This is a fairly comprehensive database, managing information on fishing vessel registration, inspection, fishing quotas, fishing licenses; data on fishing ports, storm shelters; data on logs, fishing reports; confirmation of exploited aquatic raw materials; certification of the origin of exploited aquatic products...

Every time a ship docks, fishermen complete procedures to certify the origin of their exploited seafood. They only need to enter the fishing vessel number into the VNFishbase system to know the journey of the fishing vessel at sea, as a basis for confirming the origin of the seafood. Through the VNFishbase system, the goal is to monitor and manage 100% of the digital information of fishing vessels' activities from the time they leave the port to exploit, dock to unload products, to registration as well as the data system of exploitation and trading of fishermen.

Proactively applying digital technology in fisheries exploitation not only helps Quang Tri fishermen confidently stick to the sea but also gradually modernizes traditional fishing, meeting the requirements of integration and sustainable development.
