(Dan Tri) - Chen Kieu Pagoda is located in My Xuyen district (Soc Trang province), about 12km from Soc Trang city center towards Bac Lieu province.
The temple is known to domestic and foreign tourists for its "unique" architecture in Vietnam, with the highlight being the walls covered with pieces of beautiful porcelain bowls and plates.
Chen Kieu Pagoda has a unique style and architecture with walls covered with pieces of ceramic bowls and plates.
Recently, the pagoda has attracted tourists to check-in thanks to the brilliant sunflower garden. Venerable Kim Hoang Hung, Abbot of Chen Kieu Pagoda, said that the sunflower garden, which covers an area of about 2,000 square meters, was sown by the pagoda about a month before the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao 2023. The flowers began to bloom about 2 weeks ago. Every day, thousands of tourists come to admire and take souvenir photos.
The sunflower garden in the temple is thousands of square meters wide and is blooming beautifully.
With a group of friends from Bac Lieu province, who were fascinated by the brilliant yellow sunflower garden, Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngan happily said: "We heard many people introduce the beautiful sunflower garden of Chen Kieu Pagoda, so today we invited each other to come and admire and take pictures as souvenirs. Only when we came here could we feel the beauty of thousands of sunflowers blooming yellow under the bright sunlight."
Many young people come here to admire and take photos as souvenirs.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Danh in Chau Thanh district ( Soc Trang province) shared: "In Chau Thanh there is a pink trumpet flower street but this year it has not bloomed yet so there are few visitors. I heard that at Chen Kieu pagoda there is a very beautiful sunflower garden so I went down to admire it. Looking at the thousands of square meter flower garden in full bloom makes me feel happy and relaxed in my soul."
The monks of the temple take very good care of the flowers so the garden is always green.
Chen Kieu Pagoda was formerly known in Khmer as Wath Sro Loun (for ease of pronunciation, the word Sro Loun was mispronounced as Sa Lon). Sro Loun originated from the word Chro Luong, the name of a canal running along the village road near the pagoda. In 1815, the pagoda was built with trees and leaves. In 1969, the pagoda was rebuilt in the architecture as it is today, including: Main hall, sala, stupa, place to store scriptures, etc. During the construction process, due to lack of materials, the monks came up with the idea of donating bowls and plates from the villagers to cover the walls. This idea both saved construction costs and created impressive decorative motifs. Since then, the pagoda has been known by the people by its second name, Chen Kieu Pagoda. An attractive feature for tourists when visiting Chen Kieu Pagoda is that this place still preserves part of the property of the family of the Bac Lieu Prince, such as: a set of sofas that is a money counting table, a reception table, a summer and winter bed, a mother-of-pearl inlaid cabinet...
The bed of the Prince of Bac Lieu is displayed at the temple.
Among those assets, many people were impressed by the two beds of the Prince of Bac Lieu, in which the summer bed had a marble surface, and the winter bed had a rosewood surface.
The two beds are made of rosewood, surrounded by mother-of-pearl inlay with sophisticated patterns, believed to be worth tens of billions of dong.
