According to Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh, Director of Bach Ma National Park, white pheasants often appear in high mountain areas, from 500m and above in Bach Ma National Park. In the wild, each flock of white pheasants usually has 3 to 5 individuals. However, the white pheasant population develops slowly due to threats from predators such as weasels, civets, and red-faced monkeys.

Previously, the white pheasant belonged to group IB (a group of endangered, precious, rare wild animals that are strictly prohibited from being exploited and hunted for commercial purposes). From July 1, 2025, this species will be classified into group IIB (a group of wild animals that are restricted from being exploited and used for commercial purposes).
Since 2022, Bach Ma National Park has successfully bred 24 white pheasants. The breeding source not only comes from nature but is also transferred by Cuc Phuong National Park to diversify the gene pool.

Along with breeding and conservation work, Bach Ma National Park also promotes community propaganda, strengthens patrols, removes traps, rescues and cares for confiscated individuals. “We are ready to coordinate with international organizations, authorities and functional agencies to receive, rescue, breed and release rare wild animals, contributing to biodiversity conservation,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh.

In addition to the white pheasant, in recent times, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms under VGG Bach Ma has also bred and preserved many rare species such as the yellow-cheeked peacock, the Central yellow-fronted box turtle and several other species.

With a natural area of over 37,423 hectares, Bach Ma National Park has a very rich flora and fauna with 2,421 plant species, including 74 species in the Vietnam Red Book 2007, 20 species listed in the IUCN List 2016 and 204 endemic species. In addition, there are 1,728 animal species, including 70 species in the Vietnam Red Book 2007, 52 species in the IUCN List 2016 and 15 endemic species.
Recently, many rare and endangered animals have appeared in Bach Ma National Park, such as Truong Son muntjac, Indochinese pig badger, pheasant, and red-shanked douc langur.
