DTO - In the context of extreme weather with intense heat and prolonged dryness, the risk of forest fires in Tram Chim National Park (Tam Nong district) is at a high alert level. In order to proactively respond and minimize damage caused by forest fires, the Tram Chim National Park Management Board has synchronously deployed many technical solutions, organized a 24/7 standing force, combined with propaganda, patrolling, water regulation... to protect the safety of the endemic wetland ecosystem - the "green lung" of the Dong Thap Muoi region.

Protecting the precious "green lungs"
With a forestry area of over 7,310 hectares, including over 2,500 hectares of cajuput forest and dense vegetation, Tram Chim National Park clearly understands the importance of proactively implementing drastic and synchronous solutions to prevent and fight forest fires, protecting the precious "green lung" of the Dong Thap Muoi region.
These days, in all key sub-zones such as A1, A3, A4 and A5 of Tram Chim National Park, the specialized force of Forest Protection and Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting (PCCC) in coordination with the Tam Nong - Tan Hong Inter-District Forest Protection Department and the Provincial Forest Protection Department are working hard to carry out their tasks. Forest protection officers and staff cut firebreaks and actively burned grass to create a safety belt, preventing the risk of fire spreading if an unfortunate incident occurs.
At the same time, the prevention of illegal entry into the National Park for fishing, honey collection... which can cause fires is promoted through many forms, from distributing leaflets, hanging banners to direct propaganda in residential areas in the buffer zone.
In order to be proactive in forest fire prevention and control in the dry season, Tram Chim National Park Management Board has deployed specialized fire fighting machines to areas at high risk of fire, and has pumped water into canals and ditches to maintain water levels and increase humidity for forest vegetation.
Mr. Cao Thai Phong - Deputy Director of Tram Chim National Park, emphasized: “The current weather is very complicated, although there are some unseasonal rains, they are not significant. Water levels in many areas are low, and the dry vegetation is a great potential risk. Therefore, Tram Chim National Park has proactively and synchronously deployed forest fire prevention solutions according to the motto "prevention is the main thing, timely and effective fire fighting, minimizing damage to the lowest level".

According to Mr. Cao Thai Phong, Tram Chim National Park has closely monitored the hydrometeorological situation, regulated water reasonably in the subdivisions and increased monitoring of grassland ecosystems during the dry season. Another important measure implemented by Tram Chim National Park is to strictly manage flammable materials and fire use in the area. Specifically, in subdivisions A4 and A1, Tram Chim National Park conducted controlled burning of over 432 hectares of thick vegetation to minimize potential flammable materials. The burning process is carried out according to strict procedures, ensuring absolute safety.
Tram Chim National Park strictly implements the spirit of "4 on-site" in forest fire prevention and fighting
Application of science and technology in forest fire prevention
To improve on-site response capacity, the specialized Forest Protection Team of Tram Chim National Park has developed a detailed forest fire prevention plan, prepared 9 large fire pumps, 150 hand sprayers, 20 machine sprayers, nearly 200 fire rakes and many other specialized equipment. Inspection and maintenance of these vehicles and equipment are carried out regularly, ensuring good operation when necessary. "We thoroughly implement the spirit of "4 on-site" (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site vehicles and on-site logistics) in forest fire prevention work. This helps us to proactively and quickly handle possible fire situations," added Mr. Cao Thai Phong.
In addition to efforts in human and material resources, Tram Chim National Park also focuses on the application of science and technology in forest fire prevention and control. Security camera systems have been installed in key areas for direct monitoring, helping to detect and report fires quickly. Tram Chim National Park is also developing a database on forest status, locating ponds and lakes that can be used for fire fighting, planning to dredge canals, and building vegetation maps and specialized maps for forest fire prevention and control through modern technological equipment.

Tram Chim National Park also mobilizes community participation in forest fire prevention and control. Fire prevention and control teams in buffer zone communes and towns regularly patrol and protect forests, proactively pump water into forests to increase humidity, regulate water reasonably and keep forests clean. Forest Protection Department and People's Committees of communes and towns coordinate to develop specific plans and solutions according to the "4 on-site" motto, while strengthening propaganda andeducation to raise awareness among officials and people about the importance of forest fire prevention and control. Developing forest fire forecasts in the district and regularly checking white lines are also important measures to proactively deal with the risk of forest fires.
With proactive and synchronous solutions being implemented, Tram Chim National Park is "one step ahead" in the "war" against "fire", preserving the green color of the typical wetland of Dong Thap Muoi, the "common home" of hundreds of rare species of flora and fauna.
