"Royal flower" blooms on Quang Tri limestone mountain

At this time, at the forest area of ​​the Quang Tri Province Special-Use Forest Management Board, dozens of parasol trees have bloomed, dyeing the mountains and forests pink.

According to observations, the area with the most concentrated sycamore trees is the limestone mountain range running along the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road, through Ta Long commune, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.

The tung tree (scientific name is Firmiana SP ) is also known as to dong, trom don... A mature tree can be up to 16 m tall, with an outstandingly tall and straight trunk.

The parasol tree is known as the "royal flower" and was engraved on the Nine Urns by King Minh Mang. It is said that the tree is where phoenixes often come to perch.

According to the leader of the Quang Tri Province Special-Use Forest Management Board, the population of parasol trees grows on limestone mountains in the communes of Huong Viet, Huong Lap, Huong Son (Huong Hoa district) and Dakrong, Ta Long (Dakrong district).

According to initial statistics, this area has about 50 sycamore trees with diameters from 20-60cm that are flowering. Many other trees are starting to shed their leaves and are preparing to bud. In this forest unit, there are also many young trees growing on rocky ledges.

The population of parasol trees in the forest area of ​​the Quang Tri Provincial Special-Use Forest Management Board is not only valuable in terms of genetic resources but also valuable in terms of landscape and potential for ecotourism development.

Currently, this unit is developing a plan for large-scale survey and research on species distribution to serve protection and conservation work.

The Quang Tri Province Special-use Forest Management Board is assigned to manage 3 special-use forests, including: Dakrong Nature Reserve, Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve and Ho Chi Minh Road Landscape Protection Area with a natural area of ​​up to 66,164.08 hectares.

Up to now, in the forest area of ​​this unit, 2,903 species of higher plants have been recorded, including over 200 rare species, prioritized for protection, recorded in the Vietnam Red Book, the World Red Book, and Decree 84/2021/ND-CP.
