Arsenal secured three valuable points in the race for Champions League qualification with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in their final game at the Emirates Stadium this season, marking their second win in seven Premier League games.
Before round 37 of the Premier League, the battle for a place in the Champions League next season is very tense. Except for Liverpool, who won the tournament a few matches early and have already secured a place, the teams behind such as Arsenal and Newcastle are completely capable of being pushed out of the Top 5. That makes the match at Emirates tense right from the opening whistle.

Having to play away from home, Newcastle showed great determination with a tight game, not afraid of disputes. Goalkeeper David Raya soon experienced tense moments when his pass led to a dangerous situation for Arsenal. The Spanish goalkeeper then had to show his talent to block Bruno Guimaraes' shot from close range.
Raya had more work to do in the first half, pushing Harvey Barnes' shot wide of the post and then saving Dan Burn's header from Sandro Tonali's corner. Arsenal also had the best chance from a corner, but goalkeeper Nick Pope did well to keep out Thomas Partey's header after Bukayo Saka's dangerous cross.
After an unimpressive first half, Arsenal started the second half with renewed vigour and took the lead through Declan Rice's pinpoint strike in the 55th minute. The ball flew into the bottom corner after Martin Odegaard's pass found Rice on the edge of the penalty area.

The opening goal gave the hosts a huge boost. Further chances fell to Saka and Ben White, but Pope saved Saka's shot before White's long-range effort went wide. However, Arsenal had some worrying moments as Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock missed shots from good positions. Missing valuable chances saw Newcastle fall to defeat at Arsenal.
Arsenal were delighted to welcome back Kai Havertz as he helped them secure their 12th win in 13 home games. Newcastle missed out on becoming the first team to beat Arsenal four times in a single season.
The defeat forced the Magpies to wait until the final day of the season to find out whether they will qualify for the Champions League next season. Newcastle are currently third in the table with 66 points, ahead of Chelsea and Aston Villa on goal difference. If Man City score against Bournemouth in the late game of round 37, Newcastle will drop to fourth.
