Last night, the 2026 World Cup qualifying round in Africa took place. All attention was focused on the match between Morocco and Niger in Group E. Before this match, the North African team was leading the group with 15 points after 5 matches, 6 points more than the second-ranked team, Tanzania.

Coach Walid Regragui and his team have the chance to become the first African team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup if they win against Niger. They had no difficulty completing that task after a 5-0 victory over Niger.
With superior class and home field advantage, Morocco created an overwhelming attacking game. In the first half, the “Atlas Lions” led their opponents 2-0 thanks to a double from midfielder Ismael Saibari.
In the second half, Morocco scored three more goals thanks to Ayoub El Kaabi, Hamza Igamane and Azzedine Ounahi, to end the match with a score of 5-0.
In the remaining match in this group, Niger was held to a 1-1 draw by Congo. Thus, Morocco increased the gap with Tanzania to 8 points in the context of only two rounds of African qualifying. That helped Morocco secure the top position in the group.

In the 2026 World Cup finals, Africa will have 9.5 places (9 direct places and 1 place in the Intercontinental play-off). With the current situation, Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, and Tunisia will likely be the next names on this continent to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Thus, up to now, FIFA has determined 17 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup including Canada, Mexico, the US (host), Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan (Asia), New Zealand (Oceania), Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay (South America) and Morocco (Africa).
