On September 22, the People's Committee of Binh Chanh District (HCMC) and the HCMC Institute for Development Studies held a workshop on the Investment Project to build Binh Chanh District into a district or city under HCMC in the 2012-2030 period.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Huynh Cao Cuong, Vice Chairman of Binh Chanh District People's Committee, said that about 20 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Chanh District with an area of 252.56 km2, a population of more than 815,000 people, is the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, with a rapid growth rate in socio -economics, infrastructure, as well as rapid urbanization.
Mr. Tran Van Nam, Secretary of Binh Chanh District Party Committee, spoke at the workshop.
Binh Chanh District has a transport infrastructure connecting to the city center, and is also playing a central role connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Mekong Delta by both road and waterway, so the conditions for economic development are extremely favorable...
According to Mr. Huynh Cao Cuong, the workshop is a very necessary and meaningful activity to help Binh Chanh District receive more consultation from leaders, experts and scientists in the process of concretizing policies when implementing.
"With the initial results achieved, along with the determination of Binh Chanh district and the support and contributions of experts and scientists, it is the basis for the effective implementation of the project and achieving the set goals" - Mr. Huynh Cao Cuong said.
Overview of the workshop
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Van Nam, Secretary of the Binh Chanh District Party Committee, said that the project was developed based on natural and socio-economic conditions, the Resolution of the Binh Chanh District Party Congress, and on scientific and practical grounds, as well as the wishes of the people and district leaders.
Binh Chanh district leaders also met to discuss and ask for the City's opinion so that Binh Chanh can strive to become a city by 2025.
According to Mr. Tran Van Nam, Binh Chanh is the western gateway of the city connecting 13 provinces of the Mekong Delta, but its appearance is not up to par, the urbanization speed is fast... We hope that leaders and scientists will contribute ideas to build Binh Chanh district into a complex city. The construction must pay attention to space, land, and underground infrastructure.
At the workshop, opinions said that it is necessary to have financial resources and clarify what benefits people will receive when becoming a city; add to the planning and update the city's general planning; develop a smart city; and pay attention to underground space when building a city...
