Building Hanoi Medical University into a key training institution, among the top in Asia

On the afternoon of November 19, in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and his delegation visited, worked and congratulated Hanoi Medical University on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2025) and the 123rd anniversary of the school's founding.

Reviewing the milestones in the process of formation and development along with outstanding achievements in the period of 2021 - 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long affirmed that Hanoi Medical University is a prestigious training institution, with leading prestige in the medical field with many clearly quantifiable results. The Deputy Prime Minister sent his congratulations to the school for its outstanding contributions, long-standing achievements and continuous efforts in the career of training, research and taking care of people's health.

Recently, the Politburo , the Party and the Government have issued many important policies to support medical, educational and training facilities, in which the University of Medicine is a beneficiary of many policies. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that if the school focuses on applying science and technology, innovation to research, produce drugs, vaccines, and develop OCOP products of the Pharmaceutical and Traditional Medicine sectors, it can benefit from "the whole sky of policies". However, the University of Medicine needs to clearly define its location, operational goals and proactively propose to the right "address".

In the coming time, the school needs to effectively implement the Project "Developing Hanoi Medical University into a national key university in the top group in Asia" approved by the Prime Minister. In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the school clearly defines the order of investment priorities for projects, so that investment is focused and key. In addition to focusing on training tasks, the school needs to focus on investing in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation in hospitals; promote intelligence, promote cooperation, mobilize resources, find ways to realize and commercialize the school's products and research results to increase revenue; closely and effectively implement the model of linking training, research and medical examination and treatment.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the school's recommendations on mechanisms and policies related to financial autonomy in research, international cooperation, reducing procedures for going abroad, inviting experts, revenue autonomy as well as priority policies for students of specific majors; at the same time, he suggested that the Ministry of Health should strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and relevant units to find more resources to support the school in the coming time.

Reporting on some of the school's outstanding achievements and development orientations, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, said that over the past 5 years, the school has increased its training scale from 11,700 to 16,000 students, an increase of 35.8%. In particular, the school has increased from 319 PhD students 5 years ago to 816 PhD students in the current period. This increase of more than 120% is a testament to the school's high-level training and research capacity.

In recent times, the school has promoted digital transformation in administration and training; for the first time appeared in the prestigious global rankings of Times Higher Education at position 801 - 1,200 and in group 501 - 600 in the health field; the Prime Minister approved the project to develop into a national key university, among the top groups in Asia.

The hospital facilities and system were expanded, increasing the total scale to 800 beds and adding new facilities. The school effectively implemented the financial autonomy mechanism, completing the accreditation of 9 training programs, of which 2 programs met international standards. The quality of the teaching staff was improved, scientific research activities were promoted, helping the school maintain stable financial growth for 5 consecutive years.
