On August 26, the Ministry of Health coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize a National Conference on tourism-healthcare associated with sustainable development at NovaWorld Phan Thiet (Tien Thanh ward, Lam Dong province), opening a new development orientation to take care of people's health associated with economic development and international integration.
According to the Ministry of Health , medical tourism is becoming a strong development trend. This is a unique combination of high-quality medical services and diverse tourism experiences, bringing both economic benefits and affirming the prestige and position of a country. In Vietnam, the medical tourism market reached about 700 million USD in 2024 and is forecast to reach nearly 4 billion USD in 2033, with an average growth rate of 18%/year.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan said that Vietnam has all the conditions to become an attractive destination for medical tourism. The increasingly modern hospital system and medical facilities , many advanced medical techniques such as cardiovascular intervention, fetal intervention, organ transplantation, etc. have affirmed the professional position of the Vietnamese medical team on the world medical map.
Along with that, the long-standing traditional medicine, rich in cultural identity, brings the potential to develop unique treatment and resort products that few countries have. In addition, the advantage of reasonable costs, the same country is blessed by nature with more than 3,000km of coastline, rich in identity, friendly people are also important plus points for Vietnam medical tourism to create a difference.
Recently, the Ministry of Health has coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a project to develop medical tourism and high-quality medical examination and treatment services for the period 2025-2030, aiming to make Vietnam a regional healthcare center.
At the Conference, many delegates representing the health sector, tourism sector, localities, relevant agencies and units, etc. focused on discussing the difficulties and challenges in developing medical tourism. In addition, experts proposed solutions and strategic development directions in the coming time and gave their opinions on the Draft "Project on developing medical tourism and high-quality medical examination and treatment services to attract foreigners and Vietnamese people with the ability to pay in the period 2025-2030".
