Song Ma commune has a long tradition of growing fruit trees, especially longan and mango, but due to extensive farming, they have not yet become commodities. Since 2010, Na Nghiu commune and the old Song Ma town have mobilized people to renovate mixed gardens and convert sloping land areas for growing corn and cassava to growing fruit trees; applying grafting techniques, renovating longan with new varieties for high productivity and economic efficiency. Thanks to that, the area of fruit trees in the commune has increased rapidly, from a few hundred hectares at the beginning to now having 1,422 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds. Many models have high economic efficiency, such as: grafted longan, late ripening longan, golden longan, Thai custard apple, plum, green-skinned grapefruit, Taiwanese mango GL4.
Off-season agricultural production is an important highlight in agricultural development in Song Ma, bringing economic efficiency many times higher than traditional farming. In particular, the model of spreading and off-season longan is concentrated in villages with advantages of stable land and water sources, such as Tay Ho, Canh Kien, Hung Mai, Tien Phong, Me Bon... After 2-3 years of grafting, longan and mango gardens have begun to yield harvests. Many farming households have become rich from fruit trees, typically the family of Mr. Tran Van Trung, Hung Mai village, earning more than 200 million VND/year from 2 hectares of mango and longan; or Mr. Dinh Cong Mai, Canh Kien village, earning nearly 400 million VND/year from the longan garden.
Toan Thang Cooperative, Tay Ho village is a typical example of promoting the application of science and technology in Song Ma. The Cooperative uses organic fertilizers instead of inorganic fertilizers, helping the garden achieve good productivity and quality. Mr. Duong Tu Thanh, Director of the Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative currently has 17 members, with a scale of 45 hectares of mango, longan, and grapefruit. Currently, the Cooperative promotes the application of scientific and technological advances to plant in different crops, increase income value, and reduce seasonal pressure.

Meanwhile, at Song Ma Agriculture and Forestry Company Limited, Sub-area 7, Song Ma Commune, the model of growing seedless Ha Den grapes has been focused on since May 2020. This grape variety has many outstanding advantages, such as: Strong growth, fast harvest, high sweetness. In 2021, the Company harvested 1.4 tons of grapes with a selling price ranging from 150,000-180,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Vuong, Director of Song Ma Agriculture and Forestry Company Limited, shared: The company has expanded the area to 1.1 hectares, installed an automatic irrigation system and cameras at the grape roots to monitor the quality of irrigation water and fertilizer. Thanks to that, the grape bunches have twice the size of the previous ones. The expected output for the 2025 crop is 2 tons of fruit/batch (2 harvests per year), with an average selling price of 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg. The company creates jobs for 4 local workers, with an average salary of 6-6.5 million VND. The company's Ha Den grape product has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.

Fruit tree development has become one of the directions of Song Ma commune in economic development. The Resolution of the 1st Party Congress of the commune, term 2025-2030, has set specific goals: By 2030, the commune strives to have 30 hectares of fruit trees certified by VietGAP, GlobalGAP and equivalent standards; 10 hectares of fruit trees for off-season and inter-season production; and at least 1 additional OCOP product recognized.

Mr. Hoang Van Thuyen, Chairman of Song Ma Commune People's Committee, said: The commune focuses on key solutions to promote the application of scientific and technical advances in planting and care to improve productivity and product quality. Actively improve and select high-quality fruit tree varieties; link to establish cooperatives, form concentrated production areas according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes to meet market requirements; build geographical indications, product brands, collective brands; register growing area codes, preliminary processing and processing facility codes.
With the drastic participation of local Party committees and authorities and the initiative of the people, Song Ma commune is creating a solid momentum to become a specialized fruit growing area, contributing to building new rural areas and improving people's lives.
