According to the report of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, from the beginning of 2023 until now, extreme natural disasters have occurred in all regions, causing great damage to people and property, affecting agricultural production, mainly focusing on types of natural disasters such as heavy rain, flash floods, landslides, riverbank and coastal erosion.

According to the law, when natural disasters occur, localities have proactively handled and reported promptly. Recently, the Government has promptly provided 4,000 billion VND in emergency support to the Mekong Delta provinces to overcome the consequences of landslides.

Based on the direction of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, and based on reality, 30 provinces in the North, Central and Central Highlands have proposed financial support to repair essential infrastructure, relocate residents in disaster areas, and urgently overcome the consequences of landslides.

Based on field inspections in 23 localities, reviewing and synthesizing data, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has compiled and proposed to consider providing emergency support of more than VND 5,000 billion for provinces to urgently repair essential infrastructure and relocate and arrange residents out of dangerous areas.

Emphasizing that overcoming the consequences of natural disasters requires "quick decisions", Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai requested ministries and branches to discuss and give opinions to unify and submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision, handling promptly, effectively, for the right purpose, and in accordance with the provisions of law.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Justice Tran Tien Dung emphasized that overcoming the consequences of natural disaster prevention is an urgent issue, requiring timely decisions, otherwise "the urgency will no longer exist".

Citing the provisions of the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Deputy Minister Tran Tien Dung highly appreciated the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control organized a delegation to conduct field surveys in localities, and at the same time synthesized the needs of localities, reported and proposed to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

At the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Government Office, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development discussed a number of contents related to regulations on the use of funding sources, list of projects proposed for support, etc.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that the Government and the Prime Minister are extremely concerned with working with localities to overcome the consequences of natural disasters to ensure people's lives.

The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is requested to review the submitted content, absorb the opinions at the meeting, coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to unify the list, ensure the correct subjects;... by October 27 at the latest, the submission must be completed and reported to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision, ensuring timeliness and effectiveness./.
