Accordingly, many posts on social networks said that teachers at Dao Thinh Secondary School (Yen Bai) washed each student's book after the floodwaters receded and then hung them out to dry on both sides of the road. "Seeing these images makes many people feel sorry"...
Just 30 minutes after posting, the posts with accompanying images received thousands of likes, shares and mixed comments.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Tuan Dung, vice principal of Dao Thinh Secondary School, confirmed that the information shared on social networks is false.
School leaders confirmed that the school did not dry students' books on both sides of the road after the floodwaters receded - Photo: Social Network
According to Mr. Dung, the image of books being spread out along both sides of the road and in front of the school gate is real, but they are not the books of the students in the school.
Specifically, the books and scrap paper that were dried on both sides of the road and in front of the school gate were bought from everywhere by a household living about 200m from the school, who collects scrap paper, and then dried them on September 15.
"Because the school is located on a high ground, people brought scrap paper to dry near the school gate on September 15. At that time, students had not yet gone to school. Then someone passing by took a picture and posted inaccurate information online, causing confusion.
On September 16, when students returned to school, this household exposed the fire again below, about 50m from the school gate.
Previously, some websites posted this information, the school contacted them to remove it because the information was not true," said Mr. Dung.
Mr. Dung added that during the recent flood, the floodwaters only reached the school yard, so the school's classrooms were not flooded and the school's facilities were largely unaffected. In the new school year, 100% of students have enough books and notebooks.
Previously, on September 19, continuing the journey to support students in flood-affected areas, Tuoi Tre newspaper coordinated with Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union to present 872 gifts to students of Dao Thinh Secondary School, Y Can Secondary School and Co Phuc Town Primary School (Tran Yen district, Yen Bai).
Each gift is worth 1 million VND, including 500,000 VND in cash and a gift worth 500,000 VND. Gifts for primary school students include: 1 backpack, pens, pencils, ruler, 10 notebooks, jacket, summer-autumn blanket. Gifts for secondary school students include: 1 backpack, 1 set of school supplies, 10 ballpoint pens, 10 notebooks, winter blanket.
Tran Yen is one of the areas that was deeply flooded last week. Floodwaters poured in from upstream and the Red River rose 2-3 meters, causing hundreds of households in low-lying areas and riverside areas to be submerged.
Of the 373 students of Dao Thinh Secondary School, nearly 200 were severely affected by the flood.
