On November 23, when the floodwaters receded, Lac Nghiep Secondary School, D'Ran Commune ( Lam Dong ) received support from officers and soldiers of Division 302, Military Region 7, and local militia forces to clean up, rearrange tables, chairs, and equipment; and repair facilities after the historic flood.

A school teacher said that from the night of November 19 to November 21, due to the Da Nhim hydroelectric reservoir (Don Duong) releasing water at a peak flow rate of up to 2,500 m3 /second (then gradually decreasing), the entire first floor of the school was submerged in floodwater, the water level rose about 2 m.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, Principal of Lac Nghiep Secondary School, said that the floodwaters had caused the entire fence of the school to collapse, and the walls, windows, and doors of many rooms on the first floor had collapsed. The floodwaters were about 2 meters high, sweeping away machinery, tables, chairs, and items from the two equipment rooms and the medical room; thousands of books in the library were also swept away by the floodwaters... the estimated damage was about 5 billion VND.
"When the water receded, the first floor was filled with mud and trash. Fortunately, the school received active support from 100 officers and soldiers of Division 302, Military Region 7, so up to now, the cleaning, wiping, rearranging of tables, chairs, cabinets, items... has been basically completed," Mr. Ngoc shared.

Also according to Mr. Ngoc, in the face of the school's damaged facilities, the People's Committee of D'Ran Commune allowed the school to immediately rebuild the collapsed fence and reinforce the damaged walls, windows, and doors of the first floor rooms. The repair and construction work cannot be completed yet.

Therefore, students cannot go to school yet, from November 24th students will study online. Only when the facilities are repaired and safe will we decide to let students go to school; the school has 14 classes with 568 students.

In recent days, the school has received some old textbooks donated by local people, so the teachers have had to rearrange them into sets and classes to prepare for the students. A teacher said that most of the students’ houses in the area were heavily flooded, so their books and school supplies were washed away or torn. The students are in dire need of support with textbooks and school supplies.
