The average export price of rice in the first 7 months of 2025 is estimated at 514 USD/ton, down 18.4% compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, the Philippines is Vietnam's largest rice consuming market with a market share of 42.6%. Ghana and Ivory Coast are the next two largest markets with market shares of 11.1% and 10.6%, respectively.
Compared with the same period last year, export value rice In the first 6 months of 2025, rice exports to the Philippines market decreased by 13.5%, to the Ghana market increased by 53.5%, and to the Ivory Coast market increased by 96.6%. Among the 15 largest export markets, rice export value increased the most in the Bangladesh market with an increase of 188.2 times and decreased the most in the Malaysian market with a decrease of 58.5%.
As of the end of July, the country had planted an estimated 6.52 million hectares of rice, up 1% over the same period last year. The harvested rice area was estimated at 4.13 million hectares, up 2.3% over the same period last year.
The reason for the decline in rice exports is believed to be due to large market supply, low export prices and import markets limiting purchases to wait for prices to drop. In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will continue to implement solutions such as maintaining export market share, taking advantage of competitive advantages to increase fragrant rice market share. In addition to maintaining traditional markets with large market shares such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia needs to seek more export markets and diversify input materials to reduce tax pressure.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover in July 2025 is estimated at 6.01 billion USD, up 13.4% compared to July 2024. The total agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover in the first 7 months of 2025 reached 39.68 billion USD, up 14.7% over the same period in 2024.
By region, Asia is the largest export market for Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products, with a market share of 42.6%. The next two largest markets are the Americas and Europe, with market shares of 23.3% and 15.1%, respectively.
In terms of individual exports, the US remains Vietnam's largest export market with a market share of 21%, followed by China with a market share of 18.4%, and Japan with a market share of 7.2%. Compared to the same period last year, the estimated export value of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 7 months of 2025 to the US market increased by 12.1%, China increased by 3.6%, and Japan increased by 23.6%.
