Flowers of the brand "Da Lat - Miraculous crystallization from the good land" supplied to the Japanese market only reached more than 26.6% of Lam Dong's total flower export output last year. |
In general, Lam Dong flower industry has many advantages in terms of climate, soil, investment, application of new technical advances in concentrated production of specialized flower growing areas with diverse varieties of high-quality flowers associated with traditional craft villages. Compared to the general level of the whole country, facilities, production infrastructure as well as experience and flower cultivation techniques in Lam Dong are always in the leading position. In particular, more and more FDI enterprises are investing in high-tech flower production, creating conditions for enterprises, cooperatives and farmers in the province to access and develop production linkages, expand domestic and export markets.
According to the Dalat Flower Association, the total area of commercial flower production in the province by the end of 2024 is about 10,880 hectares, with an output of 4.41 billion branches, an increase of 796 hectares and 350 million branches compared to the end of 2023. Of which, the largest proportion is chrysanthemum area 38.1%; potted flowers 13.4%; gladiolus 12.9%; roses 12%. The remaining proportion includes other flowers 8.1%; carnations 7.4%; gerberas 5.5%; lilies 1.3%; anthurium 1.3%. Specifically, 8,000 hectares (output 3.35 billion branches) of flower growing area are allocated to the agricultural regions of Dalat and Lac Duong at an altitude of over 1,500 m above sea level. And 2,880 hectares of flower area distributed at an altitude of 800 - 1,000 m above sea level in the agricultural areas of Don Duong, Duc Trong, Lam Ha, Di Linh, Bao Loc, with a total output of 1.06 billion branches.
Vice President of Dalat Flower Association Lai The Hung commented: “Flower growing in Lam Dong has now developed on par with other countries in the region due to the introduction of modern technologies in varieties, materials, equipment, automatic control systems, advanced techniques for year-round cultivation of a variety of flowers suitable for climate and soil conditions in ecological zones at altitudes from 800 m to over 1,500 m above sea level. Flower products under the brand name “Da Lat Flowers - Miraculous crystallization from the good land” in Lam Dong province are annually exported to 23 countries in the continents with 442,353,458 flower branches, 200,698,000 seedlings (tops, tissue culture plants). Of which, 117,858,230 flower branches and 222,183,035 fresh branches and leaves of all kinds are exported to Japan.”
According to Mr. Lai The Hung, for many years, Japanese enterprises have directly or cooperated with Vietnamese enterprises to import technology, equipment, materials, and fertilizers for the production and export of Lam Dong flowers, which are used by flower growers in accordance with each cultivation condition. However, looking at other countries such as the Netherlands, Israel, Korea, and China, Japanese enterprises do not have many imported technology products or direct investment in the production and consumption of flowers in Lam Dong. The market for exporting flowers and decorative leaves to Japan still has a lot of potential, but due to technical barriers and prices, the annual increase in quantity is not significant, even the product of dancing orchids has not been exported to Japan according to demand...
Meanwhile, Lam Dong flower growers in many areas have small areas (1,000-2,000 m2/crop), greenhouse area of only 750 ha applying IOT technology, cultivation process does not meet the conditions to participate in sustainable export chain. In addition, there are not many Japanese enterprises cooperating with Vietnamese enterprises to organize flower production for export to Japan; the application of tissue culture technology of growing tips sponsored by JICA is still limited; Da Lat Flower Trading Center, also sponsored by JICA, has not invested in implementing logistics for Lam Dong flower products on the market.
Therefore, more cooperation is needed between Japanese and Vietnamese enterprises to remove difficulties, support the development of production and consumption of flowers of the brand "Da Lat - Miraculous crystallization from the good land". Specifically, the Da Lat Flower Association proposed to regularly organize conferences and seminars to connect and access high-quality technology, equipment and machinery from Japan. In addition, Lam Dong enterprises should organize cooperation with Japanese institutes, schools and enterprises to import, test and develop many new varieties of flowers and decorative leaves, especially copyrighted flower varieties for domestic production and export to the global market in general and the Japanese market in particular.
