As a "bright spot" in agricultural exports in the first 7 months of the year, the fruit and vegetable group this year is also forecast to reach the target of 7 billion USD. Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that the quality of Vietnamese agricultural products is increasingly high and is favored by many markets. In particular, durian, a staple of the fruit and vegetable group, is creating a position with its cheap price, freshness, and fast transportation time. From July, August, September and October, durian output will increase when the Central Highlands enters the season.
Durian, known as the "king of fruits", is increasingly asserting its position as it is favored by China and many other countries.
According to the latest figures from the General Department of Customs, durian exports reached US$1.32 billion in the first half of this year, up 45% over the same period last year. Durian currently accounts for 65% of the export fruit group.
The export price of durian has also increased sharply in the past 6 months, fluctuating between 4.3-4.5 USD (110,000-115,000 VND/kg, depending on the market. Currently, the Monthoong variety is popular because of its high quality, flat seeds, delicious aroma and not being mushy. The storage time of this variety is also longer than Ri 6 and other varieties.
Among the top 10 markets importing Vietnamese durian in the first half of the year, China took the lead with a turnover of 1.22 billion USD, accounting for 92.4%. "Vietnam and China have completed technical negotiations and are about to sign a protocol on exporting frozen durian. According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), Vietnam is the world's largest exporter of Robusta coffee, but the supply is running out. Since June, the export volume has decreased by 40% compared to the average of many years, causing coffee prices to continue to increase and difficult to fall below 100,000 VND per kg. In 2023, coffee exports will reach a record of over 4.2 billion USD.
VICOFA forecasts that this year, coffee exports could exceed 5 billion USD thanks to high prices.
