Fruit and vegetable exports set new records

Việt NamViệt Nam31/10/2024

Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 10 months of this year reached over 6.3 billion USD, an increase of over 31% over the same period last year.

Overall, all markets grew by double digits, with the largest increases in exports to Thailand, South Korea, Germany and Canada. Recently, the Licensing Protocol durian export Vietnam's frozen and fresh coconuts to the Chinese market have become a new factor promoting fruit and vegetable export of Vietnam.

This year, durian exports are forecast to increase by 45% compared to last year. Similarly, fresh coconut exports could increase by one and a half times compared to last year.

Overall, this year, fruit and vegetable export turnover is forecast to reach 7 billion USD, up nearly 20% compared to last year. In the last months of the year, the supply of fruit and vegetables is quite abundant compared to the same period last year, and many items also increased slightly.

At the first Vietnam Fruit Festival held in Beijing (China) at the end of September 2024, many Vietnamese businesses shared that they had signed export contracts of 30-50 containers, with some even reaching an agreement to supply 1,500 containers to Chinese partners. This is a positive signal for the future of the Vietnamese coconut industry in the market of 1.4 billion people.

According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Fruit and Vegetable Association, Vietnam will continue to supply off-season durian in November and December, ensuring supply when other countries do not have goods. This creates an advantage for Vietnam, helping to increase durian prices.

In addition, other fruits also benefit from the winter, when many countries face difficulties in harvesting, while Vietnam still maintains favorable conditions for growing fruits and vegetables. In particular, the advantage of road, sea and rail connections with China helps save costs and transportation time, creating great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses.

Experts predict that by 2025, the durian market in China could reach 20 billion USD and the world market could reach 28.6 billion USD. The demand for durian in the Chinese market is huge, and all durian exporting countries in Southeast Asia combined are still not enough to meet the demand of this market. Meanwhile, compared to other countries in the region, Vietnamese durian exported to China has many competitive advantages in logistics and quality.

However, along with the advantages, the fruit and vegetable industry also faces significant challenges. Maintaining and improving quality, strictly complying with regulations on quality, traceability... requires producers and exporters to pay more attention.
